Is the massive $30,000 a year tuition at RPI(Rensselaer Polytech) really worth it? I mean, how is the school in terms of academics? I want to major in CS..and my plan is to go to some college for a year and get a high enough GPA and transfer to CMU hopefully..is the year I will hopefully spend at RPI really going to be worth it?

if you get a high GPA at RPI, you'll get into CMU...but I don't really know how to answer your question...that's very subjective. RPI is a great school, but I don't really know what you want

RPI is worth it. Tuition at CMU is just as massive ($34,000 plus $9,000 room and board), but it is worth it too. RPI is somewhat known for being generous with finaid, and CMU is not.

i see, thanks a lot rlm919, and JyankeesSS2, thanks for that little morale boost lol. Well I want a low student to teach ratio..and well Im guessing that the location (Troy, NY) is probably in the middle of nowhere and theres not much to do..in terms of bars/clubs, maybe concerts once in a while. But as long as the academics are good, I couldnt care less =D

You should go and visit. The regular admissions deadline is not until Jan 15 so you have time. Showing interest by visiting (go through their online scheduler) will definitely help you.
