..For me to take an intensive(honors) algebra II class next year compared to the level 1(regular) course? This year I dropped down from the honors geometry class, which is known to be unusually difficult, where many kids got B's and C's and some A's, but now I am in regular math. I have an A+ average, and I don't need to study. So, to sum it up, should I put in the extra effort I will have to in order to scrape a B, or be in regular math and not have trouble. Math is not a passion of mine, but will colleges look down on the fact I am not in regular math, and do you think it would prepare me better for the SAT?

I hope you could understand that. I also try not to be obsessed with college admissions, but I was just looking for any personal experiences or anything obvious that I should know.

I am looking at upper tier colleges, I don't specifically where, but I want to have the option of going where I want, whether that is Harvard or UMass. My guidance counselor thinks I shouldn't simply because of how I did this year but I think my math teacher would disagree. Does anyone know if algebra II is generally easier than geometry? I would guess it is more dependent on the specific person, but it's worth a try.

I'm in an Advanced level Algebra II class with a challenging teacher, and I find it difficult after coming from another Advanced level Geometry class.

Generally, I've noticed people who struggle with Geometry tend to be good at Algebra, and people who have problems with Algebra tent to fare better at Geometry.

I'd go with your math teacher's recommendation. S/he knows you and your math skills better than your GC. You'll find that most people here on CC have taken much higher level math classes, but as long as your grades are high elsewhere and you're taking other really challenging courses outside of math, you are in OK shape.

I agree with redkinight, I've noticed that too. We have an integrated system where you take algebra/geometry/statistics in the same 3 years but all at once. I love it because I really struggle with geometry but am I great at algebra. I hate it because my district sucks at math so we don't have honors math.
