Is it worth it?

Hi, I really hope you guys can help me think some things through.
Im a senior... well no never mind. I recently graduated from High school, and have never applied to a college in my life. My dad is making me go to the local College of the Bahamas, which trust me, was simply filling out a form.
I decided to take up architecture for a year since they didn't have any other artistic classes to major in.
Ive never really been the decisive type so my dream job has been switching so constantly, however since I can remember it has been my goal to attend an art school. Hence I chose Architecture as my major.

In a few weeks I will be going up the the states to do some shopping with my mom and she says she will buy me a SLR camera to help me create a portfolio I can apply to my choice art colleges with. I'm wondering do you think it's worth the $800?
Even with a great portfolio of my paintings and photography do you think I would be set back since I never took the SAT seriously?

By the way. Im strongly leaning to majoring in interior design, my dream school is SCAD but the price for international students is waayyyy beyond what my family can afford. Are there any colleges you know about that's accredited for its fantastic Interior Design program?

Thank you so much for reading, a whole biography up there XD. I truly appreciate all responses.

P.S Im dedicated to work HARD in this one year that I have to do my best and get ahead of the game that way i can get into a top accredited art school

"worth the 800?"?? do whatever you can to get to where you want to go - 800 is really nothing when you look at it in the long run. aim high when your working to get into your top art school - if you cant afford it, build your portfolio EXPECTING to get scholarships.

and depending on the school, your portfolio will probably be able to make up for a not so great SAT score.

and sorry, i dont really know anything about interior design..

If 800 seems high to you, you may prefer a much cheaper school such as Mass College of Art.

thanks :)

Rex thats when I was thinking I should do. I just didnt want to have to put it to my parents expense. But I suppose once Im accepted, I can get a job and work to pay them back for the camera :)

SCAD gives many, many scholarships. In fact I don't know any applicants who weren't offered one. They generall range between $12,000 and $18,000 per year if you live on-campus. Some are based on talent, others merit, and the highest, both talent and merit.

Handemon that's what the representative keeps telling me every time she sees me but my friend. who is EXTREMELY talented, recently applied and was offered nothing. I don't know. I guess Im bring myself down ever since then because his drawings are amazing.

I just have to work hard and set my mind to my goal I suppose. I cant judge myself from others.
