Well I got a letter from Rochester saying that they will accept me and give me a $10000 scholarship if I can provide the remainder of the fees ($44280 per year), I applied to Rochester because it was listed as a university which provides financial aid to international students. However, after I had applied I found out that they do not. Rochester is one of the less selective schools I've applied to. Supposing I don't get a better university offer: is it worthwhile to get my undergaduate degree at Rochester; paying approx $45000 a year?
Rochester has an impressive ranking but how much is a Rochester degree valued? Oh and if I go to Rochester will I be able to get into a top-tier, Ivy-standard university for my graduate studies?

Wait until you see all the offers you receive before making a decision. Then ask yourself if big-time debt is worth it. My son, who also applied to the U of R, isn’t so sure.

A degree from Rochester is very valuable. However, if I had to put up 44K, I’d think twice about this. I mean, if your parents have the money and that’s not an issue - fine. However, if you are going to be financing this with loans, that would be crazy. Loans DO ADD up and do not make the mistake thinking that you’ll pay it off within a few years after school.

Rochester is a very fine, fine place to obtain an solid undergraduate education. As for getting into top-tier grad schools, that depends on you. Top students from UR end up going to many top programs in medicine, neuroscience, brain and cognitive science, political science, engineering, etc.

In shot, acceptance into top tier grad school depends on you, not UR. UR WILL provide you with all of the opportunities you need to go on into top grad programs, but the rest depends on you. If you can afford the 44K, go for it. If you will be borrowing this money, go for a school that offers more money.

Thanks guys. Anymore advice?

It all depends. If you can pay some of it without any trouble, then go for it. If you have to pay all of it, then look else where first.

and U of R degree will get you places. Like u said, it is not the MOST well known school out there, but to grad programs, U of R is well known in subjects such as Neuroscience, BCS, medicine, Optics, Psychology, Bioengineering and The SImon School is one of the top rank business school in the WORLD and Eastman School of Music is tied for #1 with Julliard.

UR is well-known to those whose business it is to know: medical schools, employers, graduate schools, etc.

Just because Joe–off–the–street has heard of Harvard and Yale but not UR doesn’t diminish the quality of the school.

BUT—is any school worth going into insane debt? I doubt it.

44,000 x 4
and you have grad school costs to worry about

i would not want to be that deep in debt just from undergraduate school.
