I was thinking about learning soccer and trying out during my Junior year, but would it be worth it anymore? I could either learn soccer or choose math team instead. Soccer would obviously require more work, but I'm willing to do it. I haven't really done much in my freshman year, and now my sophmore year either. If anyone has any other ideas, I'll gladly consider them. Thanks.

I disagree. I think if you want to try out a new sport, then thats fine. Although I do believe YSO is for kids between the ages of 6-11. But you can definitely go to your local community center or Gym and see if there are any soccer clinics intramural soccer. GOOD LUCK!

To be honest you probably lack the coordination necessary to be able to pick up soccer within that short of a time and make the team unless you are insanely athletic and can get by on that somewhat until you become more skilled or you go to a tiny school with a terrible team. Soccer is a hard sport to just pick up and play (I’m a high school varsity soccer player).

My daughter joined a coed under 19 rec league after freshman year and has played every season since. She was formerly non-athletic. She has a great time playing. If it’s just for fun, go ahead. If it’s to resume build, do the math team.

I understand, my friend is just begging me to join with him but I don’t know if I’ll get anything out of it. I’m taking honors/AP classes, so I need to manage my time. I’d like to do something as soon as possible, but I’m just lost.

Absolutely- go for it. AYSO continues thru U19 and even in the upper age groups there are always kids who have never played before. While our kids have all either aged out, or moved on to more competitive soccer, my husband still referees the older AYSO groups. Even if you don’t progress to the point of making a high school team, you will have a blast with an AYSO team and make some good friends.

Do whatever you want to do best. Don’t handpick ECs to fit what you think colleges want. What you think they want is probably not what they want and you probably won’t be happy either.
