Is it worth making a fuss about not getting into a class that I am supposed to be in.

At my school there is an Ap computer scince class that is in very demand. 12th graders get prefernce in the class and I am a 10th grader. My 10th grade friends applied to the class after me but and still go in the classs, while I did not. My counseler is telling me that the admin chose the people who get in and that no more placements would be allowed. Do you think that there would be any chance that I would get into the class if make a big deal about it as I it seems unfair as how they chose the people to be put in the class?

You still have 2 more years to get into the class. I would make a fuss Senior year if you are unable to get into that class but not now.

I’d let it go. But you could ask the GC what the criteria are so that you can try to meet them to have a better chance next year. That conveys your interest and willingness to work with the system to get what you want. That’s construction and mature.

As a women who had to fight to get into limited space STEM classes in high school I would pursue it. What was the criteria used to select students? How does your record compare to those chosen over you? You may need to have your parents help you follow up to see any action. Let us know what happens.

I agree that you should find out the criteria for selection and if it was your Junior or Senior year, I would definitely pursue it.

My son was locked out of Senior course due to overenrollment and the criteria to get the course was Senior standing and an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher. This course was an AP course with a popular teacher, so many non-Honors or students with previous AP courses under their belt signed up for the class. When I approached the Vice Principal about the GPA requirement, I found out they had not taken into consideration the weighted GPA and many Honors/AP students were also locked out of the course. Being a squeaky wheel can help and it probably would not have been an issue if this class wasn’t only offered to Seniors.
