Being Hispanic, unfortunately, only helps you so much. While it may give you an edge over someone who has comparable grades to you, your frosh/soph grades probably will hurt you… basically you’d have to have a REALLY high SAT score to make up for it.
Apply to GU as a reach, if you want, but don’t count on acceptance.

@ritatheron I heard from my friends there is this affirmative action thing (5% of hispanics MUST) that raises my chances of being accepted. I honestly do not believe this… is this true?

If this is ture, I do not want to have to rely on this just to get in if my grades are not there. I just wish I would have tried as hard in school as I am this year (junior year)

An upward trend is helpful, as is your race (though less so than other URMs). There’s no reason not to apply, assuming that Georgetown is the most selective school on an otherwise realistic list.

@glassesarechic Thanks. Just too many distractions freshman year that led to that 3.0… and sophomore year, I did not try as hard as I am now. Looking back at it, I wish I could have been more focused and had to deal with less distractions those past two years.

Get really really serious your junior year and first half of senior year in coursework, activities and test prep. You can always slack off a little the second half of senior year to make up for it. A strong upward improvement is very positive.

I’d take a good look and find out whether Georgetown is a good school for computer science. I’ve never heard of anyone mention computer science at Georgetown.

@charlieschm Yeah, I am REALLY motivated now and am going all out as far as studying. Senior year I will take AT LEAST 2 AP’s, but will probably take like 3 or 4. This year, I am self-studying for the AP Computer Science A exam.

I looked at the 2011 rankings on [US News & World Report | News & Rankings | Best Colleges, Best Hospitals, and more](http://www.usnews.com) and saw Georgetown was somewhere in the Top 50.
