Is it worth mentioning failed EC ventures?

Last year, i tried to found a forensics and debate society with a friend of mine, to compete in the Nat’l Forensics league, and my principal okayed it at first, and then said no right before we announced its formation because " funding does not allow for it." But truthfully he wanted the person we had as supervisor to coach a spring sport. Should i even mention this? I seriously think my school is one of the only ones in NJ that doesn’t offer a competitive debate club. grrr

how much effort did you put into it? If you actually competed in debates, even within the school, then I suppose you could put it down. If you just tried to start debate and didn't actually get a debate team going, then I would advise against mentioning it.

I don't think there is much mileage in this unless you actually hit some significant milestones. If the story is interesting perhaps it could figure in an essay, but there's not a lot of appeal in an effort that never got off the ground. :( Even if you worked your butt off only to be stymied by school politics or priorities, an application reader might wonder if you tried hard enough, explored other funding or advising options, etc. Better left out unless you can put an interesting spin on it...

As related, no, it's not worth using. But you learned a practical life lesson about politics: thems that has the gold makes the rules to suit themselves.
