Is it worth minoring in computer science?

I'm a biology major right now, but enjoy programming as well. If I decide to minor in computer science, it might take me an extra semester, plus summer classes. In terms of finding a job after graduation, is it worth it? Would it help me find a job, or is it just useless?

Employers hiring software developers are often accepting of those with minors or self education in lieu of a major in computer science, though (for new graduates) a major is more likely to make the first cut to get called for an interview than a minor. Try to include courses in algorithms, operating systems, networks, and software engineering in your minor.

Job and career prospects in computer software can go between very good and very bad depending on industry and economic cycles, but that is better than for biology majors who tend to see job and career prospects go between bad and very bad.

Sure. I have a friend who started at a Bio major and ended up changing to Software Engineering. You never know where your interests will take you.
