Is it worth retaking my SAT?

I took it once with absolutely no preparation--like, I didn't even know how many sections were on the test or what the format was--and I got a 2260, with 800 reading, 710 math and 750 writing. I'm a little bummed because writing is usually what I'm best at but I got only an 8 on the essay since I didn't know how long it had to be or what they were looking for. Is it worth retaking if I think I can do better? Or do colleges not care once your score is above a certain threshold, (I've heard some people say that)?

It is not worth re-taking…

Depends on where you’re aiming for. Even for ivies, you don’t really need to retake the SATs, but if that was your score without any revision, then with revision you could very well get a score in the high 2300s or even a perfect score.

First time? Totally try again! Worth a shot.
