Is it worth retaking please help

Hi, I have taken the SAT 1 two times and i am not taking it again

I have recieved a 1240 580 verbal and a 660 math in June.

In November i recieved a 1210 590 verbal 620 math,

So my best combined is a 1250.

My SAT II scores are 590 Writing and a 640 in Math 1c.

Is it worth retaking the Writing test in Dec and trying to break a 600. I mean my other stats are mediocre so would it matter?

Thanks in advance.

I'd retake it if i were you.

unless you've done some major prep work since the last time, these are your scores. You can see that you scored nearly the same both times. They are not going to change drastically, so why torture yourself. These are perfectly fine scores, and put you in a good position at many colleges.

WHere are you applying?

Harvard? Retake for sure.
Arizona State University? You'll get paid for those scores :)

Penn State
SUNY- Albany
SUNY-Stony Brook
University of Maryland- CP
NYU ( ya ok)
Boston University
George Washington
University of Michigan- ann arbor
Babson College
Bentley College

What was your essay grade?

My d took SAT's two times one year apart and the scores were within 10 points of each other. We just figured that was her score. So...

I'll probably get in trouble for saying this but...

We found out that at one of her safety schools they would increase her merit aid by 4,000 dollars (1,000 per year) if she could raise her SAT score by 30 points. So I offered her cash money to study 5 hours a week for one month on her own. The actual delivery of those funds from my checking account was dependent upon getting that minimum score for the 4,000 dollars. I even told her I would add 10 dollars more for each increment of ten that she went over that needed score. She did the work and her score improved by 70 points!!! So my investment will certainly pay off if she ends up at that school. It might even pay off at other schools.

So maybe if you studied you could raise the score. On the other hand, I agree with Raven, If that score is a good one for the schools to which you plan to apply, and you wouldn't be offered more merit aid for raising that score, then don't worry about it. But some of those schools on that list look a little tough... Good luck in whatever you decide.

Well I am not talking about my SAT 1 score but rather my SAT 2 writing.

essay was a 8 or 9

OOps, sorry FlyA, Now you know more than you ever needed to know about us. Wishing I could take that nice long post and just delete it. I guess I'm a little tired and thus should refrain from posting any more tonight.Well, the Good luck still applies....

you know your Early Decision school Babson won't recieve it in time. It doesn't occur to you after all these months you have wasted when you could be going to Cornell that 10 points on a measely SAT II Writing score won't make any difference once so ever on your application. You want to do business we all unfortunately know. 10 points on a writing test won't mean anything.

I am not applying Early Decision to Babson... What are you talking about Cornell?

your not applying to Cornell because you are not smart enough to attend. Your profile greatly fails the expectations that a Cornell student is supposed to have. Anyway 10 points on a measely SAT II especially in writing means crap especially when you are in the 500's which sucks to begin with. Babson is a business school. Did it occur to you that math is more important for business then writing is at least in terms of admission. Surprising how one can spend over a year on these forums and still ask stupid questions like this. mabe because all they cared about was their chances instead of figuring out how they could bring up their grades to attend one of their reach schools which they know now they can not get into. Oh well sucks to be you aiming from the likes of Cornell where the grapes are sour to Penn State. Nice drop off your going backwards! Maybe that is how your career will end up. Instead of being promoted you'll get degraded because you will obsess over something else and that will lead to your downfall.

What about NYU? - oops you realized you were not smart enough. (Good call) the same goes for BC, Tufts, Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, Emory and a few more. Finally you learned what we tried so painstakingly hard to get through your head.

You aim high and go backwards. Great plan!

Whoa, that was mean dude. You coulda just said 'You don't have a very good shot' or something like that.

cd8705 you don't even know the origins of this whole thing. I know some other CCer's know quite well what they went through and they won't let it happen again with this person. At least I'm not going to be one of them

Dunkaroo sounds like a self righteous jerkface. If these are the kind of people who get into the top schools I'd rather go to community college :)
chin up FlyA you'll have no chance if you don't apply!

wtf happened here?

is FlyA even applying to cornell? its not on his/her list...

I don't know what he is talking about. So basically if I haven't studied much there is no point in taking it?

yes if you haven't studied just do not take it as wherever you are applying early (Babson) will not review it and it is a very minor thing to worry about that will not change your admission decision

I am applying Early Action to Babson and Early Decision to The George Washington University.
