I got a 2280 (800M, 720CR, 760W) on the SAT in October of my Junior year when I took it for the first time. Should I take it again this year? I know that I can almost definitely do better in Critical Reading and Writing, since its been a whole year since I last took it. I am planning to apply to a lot of the top colleges including Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, etc.

It wouldn't hurt to retake it if they still take the best scores from every section... That way you don't have to beat 2280, you just need to beat a 720 CR or a 760 W

If I don't retake, Do you think colleges will see the fact that I took this early in my Junior year and only took it once? Will they take this into account?

doubtful, they'll probably think you were satisfied with you score, and heck, most people would be too. You actually beat me by 20 points for my second try, and almost identical scores if you took 10 points off writing and cr and switched the scores (750 cr and 710 writing). I was contemplating taking it a third time for kicks, because i got a 730 first time on writing, but i figured, heck it really doesn't make that much of a difference to colleges. As long as you did well, they'll go on and look at your next criterion.

At least, that's how I always envisioned the application process: they look at what you've done, not what you haven't.

^ haha, sounds like you're bitter about your 1840 SAT score...

OP- I think you should only retake if you feel like you can do better. I'm retaking a 2280 because I took it as a sophomore and I know I can get a 2400 or close to it.

i would definitely be happy with that score. i'm pretty sure that if any college rejects you, it won't be because of your sat score, but do whatever makes you happy.
