Is it worth taing a prep class through Princeton Review for $1000?

I agree that many parents put pressure on kids to take useless classes. Show them this site, and explain to them why you don't want to take the class. They'll thank you later, for saving them the extra dough.

I'm going to offer a different opinion than the ones above me. I took a Kaplan group course, and went from a 222 PSAT to a 2400 SAT (first sitting).

Now, first of all, I will say that I don't think the course actually taught me anything per se. It's true--if you're scoring fairly highly already, the course won't teach you anything you don't already know. And admittedly, there was even a time or two when I ended up explaining the question to the class instead of the teacher.

HOWEVER....

I was very busy in high school, like many of you. Running around from tutoring to clubs to babysitting to etc. And without the class, I guarantee you I wouldn't have forced myself to work 2 or 3 hours a week on the SAT stuff. My parents weren't the type to pressure me to do so, either. Was it painful to sit through the semi-useless class when I was thinking of everything else I could be doing? Yes. But did it force me to practice? Yes.

So bottom line. If you're actually dedicated to self-studying and really have that motivation, then save the money and do it yourself. But if you're like I was and need the structure of a class to make sure you get in your practice time, then take the class solely for that reason.

Study yourself~ it's better.
Man, I should get into the SAT prep business...(gotta get into an ivy first :P)
