I have a 1500+ score on the generic SAT and was wondering if it would be worth it to attempt the SAT Math 1 Subject Test. I am planning on transferring to Stanford, but I hear SAT scores don’t matter as much when transferring.
Thanks!
Planning to transfer isn’t really a realistic plan. HPYS take very very few transfers. To have a reasonable chance of success you must expand your schools away from the top few.
I have backup schools, but I’m just wondering if it would even be worth it to take Math 1 subject test, since it is recommended but not required.
Still have not received an answer as to whether it would be worth it or not to take the SAT Subject Math 1 Test.
Math 1 would be essentially useless. I’d take Math 2 instead; it’s not that much harder and it looks more impressive if you were to score really high.
@CiteYourSources Would Math 2 be worth the hours of studying and the registration fee to have on my application?
The transfer acceptance rate to Stanford is 1-2% and some of those kids may be star athletes. Having a high SAT2 score would be better than not having one but would it make a difference in whether you get accepted or not? Probably not. Your college transcripts will count much more as will your recommendations. Finally, you have to make a very compelling case for what Stanford can offer you that your current college cannot and what you have to offer Stanford in return. Good luck!
Btw, if you’re a STEM person and that is why you want to submit an SAT 2 Matn score, I would say that most STEM kids at Stanford can ace the SAT2 Math II exam with very little preparation.
I am a Computer Science major, and I’m aware that the transfer rate is very low.
Is it worth it to take Math 2? If so, what score would be good?
Also, can you point me to a thread that discusses how to make a compelling case for being accepted?
Thank you!

@RookieCS123 That’s because there is no definitive answer.
