Is it worth the $50? (Rescoring)

So I just got my SAT II December results. I scored a 740 on French, which shocked me. I'm completely fluent in the language (lived in Montreal in 3rd grade, been studying the language since age 8) and was honestly expecting to get nothing less than an 800 - I knew the answer to every single question on the test. I don't think it was a bubbling error either, since I made sure specifically that I had filled in everything right. What would account for the discrepancy - would it have something to do with my pencil marks? Has anyone ever had any of their tests rescored, and would a rescore help if it was really just due to my pencil marks?

Don’t worry about it; take a native speaker/proficiency test at college :)

^ Haha, I actually have one of those under my belt (the DALF C2… it’s basically a language proficiency test that’s MUCH harder than the SAT II French. Google it if you want more details), which is why this score is even more surprising.

Ben voil

Mais je m’inquiete quand meme! (lol)

Ahh, I just don’t want adcoms to look at my app and wonder how I could have passed such a difficult proficiency test and yet not have my SAT II French score be an accurate portrayal of my proficiency…

Unless you’re having financial problems, I think you should do it. It saves pondering for the rest of your life, at least.

^ Thanks Sapphira! That’s just what I did - I got off the phone with someone from CB only a minute ago, because I saw on the website that I was supposed to call Customer Service if I wanted to request a rescore… she said they’d be sending me a score verification form via email, so right now I’m just waiting for it to arrive in my inbox lol. Grrrrr, CB is really getting on my nerves.

Lol no problem. Hope that your original score report turns out wrong. :)

isn’t c2 like native fluency?!

^ Yeah it is! That’s why I was seriously doubting that I got a 740 in the first place. Anyway, the call’s been made, and now I’m just waiting for the form… it seems to take forever!

that’s crazy. Well good luck, hope you get that 800
I’m still waiting for my French scores… I’m hoping for a 700+ at least!

^ Good luck to you too!

Yay - finally received the form. Now a part of me can relax, lol… I’m still incredibly confused as to how scoring errors happen though. They’re probably not very common, but seeing how they have to score so many tests in such a short period of time, perhaps something’s just bound to go awry haha.

i’m debating whether or not to rescore them, because last time i took it, i had a 690 and that was when i was taking pre-calc, so i had no idea what limits were, let alone a majority of the test. and i remember only doing approx 30 or the 50 questions, and i ended up getting 690.

yesterday i got a score report saying that i got a 630 on math level 2. is that even possible? after knowing how to do limits, feeling confident, and answering 45 of the 50 problems? i don’t think challenging our scores should cost $50 dollars, the subject test was already expensive. dayum.

would you guys suggest rescoring? will it be rescored in time for colleges to consider?

^from what I’ve heard, rescoring can take up to 5 weeks.

thanks man. do you think it would be better to check up with other people who also took level 2 to see if the scoring was extremely low before i do this? i mean it’s 50 dollars, and it doesn’t mean it was definitely a screw up…

Hi xevonx! I’d suggest that you go and look in the Math II thread in this forum and see if most of your answers matched up to the ones posted… that gave me a fairly good indicator of how many I’d missed. If most of them match up, then I’d highly recommend you to send in a score verification request.

^ yep i would strongly recommend that you do that first. just to make sure it’s worth it to go through this very pricy process, you know.

thanks guy, for the advice. yes, i was on top of that thread for a while. and yes, i did feel my answers matched many of the posts, with the exception of omitting 5 questions. right now the debate is whether or not to spend 50 dollars on something that might or might not help me: scores being delayed and not being considered, or that i did in fact do worse on this test. hahaha what a jip man. i love you collegeboard and your parsimonious ways. and i love you more that you are charging us to challenge you and your reliable scanners/technology.

^ Haha, I was also really ticked off at the fact that they’re still making you pay $50 even though they may be the ones who messed up! But if you truly feel that a rescore is necessary (and I believe it is necessary in your case, if what you just posted is true), then by all means go for it.

^ wait, don’t they refund your money if they actually made a mistake?
