Is it worth the money to go to a out of state public school?

I'm from new york.
if I'm considering hunter, stony brook, and baruch (cunys and sunys) (paying about 10-15k for each)
and also penn state, would penn state be worth it?
I think I'd be paying about 35k a year for penn state.
I know penn state is ranked quite a bit higher by USNWR and by most would be considered a better school, but the schools I'm considering are all ranked decently as well.
So is the difference significant enough to be worth paying about 20,000 more a year?
I would not actually have to take out loans because my parents would be paying, but I don't want to waste my parents money either so I want to know what the smartest choice would be..

I think that Penn State would give you a very different experience, but it depends in part on what you will be studying.

should’ve included that, business!

I’m from PA most likely going to penn state next fall. Penn state is definately a lot better for business than the other colleges your considering. Smeal school of business at psu is actually one of the best undergrad business schools in the country, and corporate recruiters rank penn state as the number one place they look for employees at job fairs and such.

Personally I wouldn’t pay 35k a year for penn state, your looking at 140k by the time you graduate. If you go to one of your instates you’ll pay around 60k, and then you could go get your MBA and still have paid less than you would have for just undergrad at psu.

It is really up to you though. A penn state degree is more valuable but the question is how valuable it is to you. You should visit university park and see how it feels to you.

Baruch is great for business. IMO Penn State would not be worth the difference.
