Is it worth to take it a third time...

In March, I took the SAT and had:
CR: 610
M: 770
W: 690
Total: 2070 (PSAT was 202)

I studied more for the retake, especially in critical reading, since we did a lot of writing practice in school. In June I got:

CR: 630
M: 750
W: 650
Total: 2030

I know those are not bad scores. I am proud of myself. But seeing as I am aiming for top schools, my SAT scores seem detrimental to me. However, I did receive a 35 composite on the ACT (with a 36 reading - not exactly lining up with critical reading on the SAT).

Is it worth it for me to spend another three months trying to study (I have so much AP summer work and two more subject tests to take), or should I just send in my ACT along with my subject tests? I'm aware I can't escape sending in my SAT scores though.

Your scores are fine, don't worry.

I'm in the same boat with you - a great ACT score and an okay SAT score. I think you'll be fine, though, no need to retake it again unless you're really aiming high - like Harvard or something.

Well, HYP are super reaches. Though I do really want to get into Brown, Columbia, or Stanford. Those are my top three choices, though I know they are reaches for anyone.

do you need a fee waiver for the ACT or do you have to pay for it?

and if i take it in September, how exactly would i get a fee waiver?

To be honest, then, you're going to want to get around a 2200 to have a solid chance at an Ivy League college. Or else, just send the great ACT score you have.

Thank you, artofmind and highhopes. I really don't want to go through this test again, since I'm apparently one of those people who truly do overwhelmingly better on one test than the other. And I don't think I will be able to increase my critical reading score to high 700's unless I study my ass off, but I have too many tests to study for haha. I just hope they take into account that I am an immigrant.

2200 would be nice, but oh well! :)

ACT = SAT in the eyes of an adcom at HYPSM and other ivy. 35 ACT is equivalent to 2300 ish. Don't worry about SAT I and send your ACT score. If you don't need SAT II's then the college won't even see ur SAT I so it will look as though you never took it.

Thank you vasudevank. Unfortunately I have to send in subject tests for pretty much all of my schools. Though I'm beginning to doubt that my sat score will do any damage.

Nothing's impossible. That's all i have to say. I just got a 2100 flat on the June SAT but i'm not giving up. I'm still aiming for Columbia =]

SAT I can't hurt. I had a friend you had 33 ACT but 1910 on SAT got into MIT, so I don't think a poor SAT score can hurt ( he had 800 Math II and 790 Physics) but a good SAT score can help.

Thanks again. I felt gloomy this morning after seeing those scores but hey, I got plenty of other great things to offer :). And you guys certainly put things in more realistic perspective for me. After all, not everyone can have 2300+ heh heh.
