is jhu a big legacy school?

i just found out today that someone from my schoo applied to jhu ed, and now im really worried cuz he has double legacy, and his mom is a really active alumni. so i was worrying does legacy count a lot at a school like jhu, like at penn and brown? cuz we have about the same grades, so that might give him a huge advantage if it counted a lot.

I don't really know how much JHU takes legacy into consideration, but being a DOUBLE legacy and especially since "his mom is a really active alumni," I would think he would get a little special treatment.

I don't think that they really restrict themselves from taking only ONE person from each school though...so I wouldn't be toooooooo worried about it...

I hope I am the only kid who applied from Arkansas...

So many people either applied Ed or will apply RD at my school and I'm kind of at the bottom of the stack so it's kind of depressing. I feel rejected before I've even applied.

Everyone at my school applied to Stanford. It's kind of wierd. I scouted out all the people in my school to make sure they were not applying to JHU.

My school was going mega-huge UPenn applications this year, but lots of people started dropping off. I'd say JHU or Notre Dame are going to be the big two this year. sigh (I'm applying to ND as well) :p

hmm my schools huge this year on yale, and penn is always big at my school. i just hope me and the other guy are the only ones applying here. so how much does double legacy count for exactly, esp if ur mom does interviews? i had a depressing day...

Heh, SUNY schools are all the rage in my school. Go public schools.

Usually only a few students at my school go to prestigious colleges. Where I live community colleges are fairly popular.

Same here. My class is just so much more competetive than any other class. :D

Oddly enough, mine is too. I have no idea why. The classes that were ahead of me and those that are under me do not compare to my class at all. It's safe to say that my school's class of 2006 dwarfs the prior classes. For some reason, my class of 2006 always seems to be the oddball. We were the last class that didn't have to take those stadardized english tests in intermediate school, we were the last class to go on a field trip to Toronto (pre-9/11), and not to mention the first class to take the new SATs.

Aside from the facts you state you have to understand one thing. Every human being has an inclination within their mind to view themselves, their family, and their group as in some way different/special when compared to the society at large. It's just a psychological phenomena.

That's true, but my class is actually more competetive, if you look at avg. gpa of past classes, we have the highest gpa to be in a certain percentile ever. Even the people at the lower end have higher gpa's than in past years. Based purely on facts.

um so anyone wanna venture a guess at my original question?
is jhu a big legacy school?

im sure it plays some factor... i mean double legacy for any of us would probably mean we were getting in...

legacy does count, yes, but JHU doesn't publicize it much. But, then ED is a big plus factor as well.

Don't worry about stuff you can't control. You both could get accepted since ED rate is 50%.

first, legacy matters but it is not a major factor. legacy relates to the likeliness an applicant will enroll (interest in JHU) and also it plays to a university's desire to create a community that crosses over generations of a family. All schools consider legacy, how much they weigh it though differs. At Hopkins it is a factor, but not a determining one (unless there is a building named after someone -- kidding (somewhat))

The more important response to the initial question is that you think because an another applicant from your school has applied and has double legacy it will impact your app. in some way -- it will not!!! Each applicant is reviewed individually.

Hmm I think I'm the only one from my school ED (yay lucky me!) but more ppl are applying RD. The big ED schools from my hs were Harvard, Stanford, and Yale. So yay that they are not taking up the spots for ED =P.

YEAH seriously.....SO many people from my school applied SCEA to harvard and stanford. for yale, i think only 3...but yeah i think i'm the only ED jhu from my school, too!!

I am applying to ED and so is this other kid from my school. But I'm kind of worried...cause he lied about EVERYTHING on his application...

He said he played varsity tennis (which he didn't), that he was vice president of a bio club (he isnt...i'm actually the president of that club and one of my firends is VP..haha), and that he was president of the pre-med club (he has never been to a meeting)...and a bunch of other stuff...

So I'm kind of worried that JHU won't be able to tell that he is lying. We have similar scores, but if they actually believed that he played varsity tennis and was VP of one club and president of another...he might get accepted intead of me...

Ummm... if you dont send an anyomous email to the admissions office I will... that's bs and it takes away from kids who were honest on their apps
