Is JHU out of the question for me?

Hey guys,

I will be really short. I am happy with everything in my app. except my GPA. I have 2150 + SATs, 400 +volunteer hours, good Ecs with three leadership positions and research experience. I want to go into premed but am not sure about my major yet(will not be BME). I am also applying ED. I am an international but i will not need financial aid so i have heard that will even things out. Also, i am currently in IB. Now back to the GPA. Freshman:3.63... Sophmore:3.7 Junior:3.85.. Now, i am aware that Junior GPA is the most important one. However, this is making me nervous like crazy. Considering i am applying ED and i have an overall good academic record along with nice recs and essays ... will my first two years of low GPA hurt me a lot. What is your prediction. Is it true freshman GPA is just glanced at and not really seen in depth. Sorry for all the questions. I am just really nervous. I sincerely would give almost anything for JHU as sad as it sounds. but yea... thx a lot!

My suggestion is prep your app as best as you can and don't listen to what anyone says on here as they will not be reviewing your app for johns hopkins - no matter what anyone says on here (100 people say ''YOURE IN" or 100 people say "NO WAY" --- they have no idea what will happen).

Get out and enjoy the summer and just make sure you get everything in on time.

best of luck.

Just wanted to let you know that I got into JHU with even lower GPA's than what you got (all three years)...what I also had was a couple of EC's that I excelled at.

Also, it helps if your high school is really competitive/not. My high school is one of the premier academies in the nation so that helped a lot...if your high school is a "known" feeder school to these great universities, then they will understand that it's more difficult to have a 4.0GPA.

And I second what WealthOfInformation told you...you don't have to listen to anyone on these forums...if you really want JHU, then go for it. It's an amazing institution, and it doesn't hurt to apply...

Oh, and another tip is to really do well on your essays. Take the time to write exceptional ones and write with an honest voice, because essays do help/hurt you.

Since I don't know much about you and your EC's, I will say that you have a fair chance at JHU. Your stats look good...and the Hopkins admits individuals that they believe will contribute to the community...keep that in mind.

Good Luck!!!!! Don't stress out too much...I remember this time going into my senior year...it was really hectic!

thanks guys for all the help. My school which is IB is insanely hard... i mean 90% of our students go to top 3 or 4 Canadian colleges. No one really applies to the states but it is competitive. I feel my volunteer work gives me an advantage but i will try my best. Thanks guys!

i do not think you should worry that much. being well rounded helps a lot!
