I got deferred from the main for nursing to Johnstown. I was wondering if their nursing is still worth getting in because I do live out of PA so tuition fee could potentially be problem. I was offered $12,000 from Bradford, but I haven't received any mail from Johnstown yet since I just transferred my admission. I'm really hoping to transfer to main, but am not sure how the how procedure works. I know this is unrealistic, but I am thinking that since I have 10 credits already available (Chem/Gov/Econ) I could also get enough credits faster to transfer. Considering that Johnstown has the same BSN program as main, I assume if I can maintain a high GPA, it could potentially be possible(?). I'm also thinking of Penn State Altoona for Nursing as I did get accepted. I love Altoona's campus in comparison to Johnstown's. Their financial package, though, is nowhere near what Bradford offered me (they offered me the same amount but for over four years).
I'm from California by the way, not sure if that matters.
Thanks!

UPJ’s nursing is much better than Altoona’s. That isn’t even close.

You need to call the schools and ask these questions about transferring, scholarships, and such. Schools have definitive answers, not message boards. Pitt Nursing in Pittsburgh is very competitive so they may not be able to guarantee your transfer, especially since they don’t know how well you’ll perform as a student. If there is a chance you may not be able to transfer into Pitt-main for nursing, UPJ is a better bet for nursing over Altoona and Bradford. As far as I know, the UPJ nursing degree with be identical to a Pitt nursing degree from Pitt-main since it is run by the School of Nursing at main, but you could specifically ask that to be sure. Your diploma should be identical. If you aren’t able to transfer, you could ask if there are clinical experiences that you could get at UPMC hospitals in Pittsburgh, perhaps over the summer, etc, if not during the fall or spring terms. You just need to ask questions, as many as you can think of.

Have you visited the campuses? I think you’d need to visit them before judging them, because I don’t think Altoona’s campus is nicer than UPJ. Altoona has the little pond, and that is about it. Otherwise, the buildings there are all pretty ugly, IMO, but I also grew up there. UPJ’s campus is wooded and the buildings are all stone, and IMO, a lot nicer all around and more like a college experience (including higher level Division II sports as well). Neither Altoona or Johnstown are urban bastions of culture. At Altoona, I think you might have some nursing labs in their downtown building. Sadly, there is nothing in downtown Altoona at all and you’re at the mercy of Altoona’s bus service. You should try to find students at the schools to talk to. You’re about 75 miles from Pittsburgh at UPJ and 100 miles from Pittsburgh at PSU-Altoona.
