Is joining Phi Beta Kappa worth it?

What do you mean? There is nothing to “do”. If you’re offered membership by your school’s chapter, you pay the fee and join. That’s it. It’s universally recognized in the US as a acknowledgement of your academic prowess. It will be an item on your resume for life. I’ve never heard of anyone offered PBK before junior year–which is considered quite a coup, since most don’t get in until senior year–so the “first year” reference is another thing I don’t understand about your post. Are you confusing Phi Beta Kappa with something else?

tangentline just said they were confused, wrong honor society. If they eventually get invited into PBK, definitely do it!
