Is Joining SAA worth it?

I want to join but little worried if it will make me too busy during crazy first semester
Are there like mandatory stuff that you have to do in order to stay as a member?

You have to pay like 10$…yearly.

Thats about it

gpowsang

you just pay the fee. i stand in line for beat shirts religiously, and you need to be a member to get them. i think its definitely worth it, and my only involvement is getting beat shirts.

7 sweet gators football shirts for $20? hell yeah.

@aforautumn - how hard is it to get the free tees? How long do you wait in line and how fast do they run out?

i was pretty hardcore about it. the first time i did it i pulled an all nighter and showed up before 6am and was probably around the 10th person in line. i showed up around 7:30 the other days. they dont start passing them out until 10. i showed up at 9 or 10 once or twice and am pretty sure i got the shirt. i’m pretty sure you cant get them if you get in line after like 10:15 though. if you do, the line can be wrapped around 2 blocks or more.

basically if you show up before 9:30 you’re in the clear, but expect to be in line for an hour or more. they pass out 2000 shirts, and you can bring i think one or two other people’s ID’s and get shirts for them as well.

me and a friend would buy doughnuts and do homework while we chilled in folding chairs. good times.

Sounds like aforautumn has the right idea.

I did it once for the Arkansas and Dlorida State Beat Shirts (they were giving both out on the same day).

Ended up going there the night before and chilled with some people I met there (they had an inflatable bed and all).

good times

I joined for the same reason as afroautumn. I didn’t know it was that intense though! Sound fun lol, looking forward to it.

For the all the cool free stuff in the beginning and the BEAT shirts alone the membership pays for itself.

Only 5 shirts this year and I’m not too fond of the design but I’ll still probably stand in line for some of them again lol [UF Alumni Association ~ Student Alumni Association - Beat T-Shirts](http://www.ufalumni.ufl.edu/saa/beat/)

yeah i’m not too hot for it either. but i didn’t like last years all that much either, so i’ll get over this one too.

technol mentioned it sort of, but they have a number of events where they pass out free stuff that people show up in droves for. particularly, pizza. there are a few of them towards the beginning of the year that have good stuff.

I joined for the shirts too. Kinda disappointed that its that competitive. I’ll have to actually put forth some effort apparently.

its a way of separating the men from the boys in terms of whos really a fan of gator football.

True. It would help if I had got tickets.

Depends on the game, actually. For the FIU shirts I kept getting FB/Twitter updates about there being hundreds of shirts lefts wayyy after 11am. I also just waltzed over to the line around 10am for the Georgia shirts and didn’t have to wait more than 5 minutes. However, the week before Thanksgiving break they gave out both FSU/Alabama shirts at the same time and we were in line around dawn, nowhere close to the front. The buddy system works excellently here.

yeah the fiu day was lolz. disregard everything i said when discussing the fiu game.
