I’m currently a high school student, and next year (sophomore year), I don’t know if I should continue with Spanish or take another science course instead.
Personally, I taking another science class interests me more than Spanish, but would language matter more when applying to college?
Thanks
Top colleges will expect to see a solid foundation (3-4 years depending on the school) in each core subject: English, math, science, history/social science, and foreign language.
The answer could be different between these two situations:
- You are in Spanish 1 and are deciding whether or not to take Spanish 2.
- You are in AP Spanish language and are deciding whether or not to take AP Spanish literature.
I took 3 years of Spanish and, personally, it didn’t help me much - my knowledge of Spanish is still fairly rudimentary
However, if you think that you can learn Spanish well through your school’s curriculum, language is very important. Being bilingual can open up doors to new jobs and people. Even though science is definitely my thing, I’d argue that Spanish could help you more than an extra science.
I finished Spanish 2 and im not sure if I should take Spanish 3 next year and continue taking it until the AP test
At a minimum, you should take Spanish III. Ideally, you should also take Spanish IV. You don’t have to do AP, if your other classes are strong enough.
Spanish 3 is a minimum (Spanish 4 would be optimal if you can get good grades).
