For overal and business major, which one is more prestigious? Can anybody help me to compare these two schools? Thanks a lot.

I never thought of Rutgers Business as a great school. Is it substantially worse than Lehigh? No, it is not, but Lehigh is better. But a bunch of Rutgers business school grads do get nice jobs, but then again a bunch of people all over the country do with all types of majors.

Did you get into Rutgers Business or Lehigh yet?

Lehigh is a Tier 1 school; #35 U.S. News ranking and #14 Playboy Party school.
Rutgers is Tier 2; #64 U.S. News ranking.
One school is not “better” than another…it is all what you get out of them.

unfortunately Lehigh is better. but I would still choose Rutgers.

Lehigh is definitely better and if you can afford it, I’d go there

O.P.,

Your name is somewhat memorable so I checked your other posts.

Why aren’t you telling people that you are a transfer student and that you received a full scholarship at Rutgers? Why aren’t you sharing what the difference in cost between Rutgers and Lehigh would be for you?

This is not like you got into Wharton and wonder whether the cost will be worth it over Rutgers. The difference between Lehigh and Rutgers will not be there on starting salary. Do well at either school and there will be plenty of opportunities.

^^ Good catch.

Not sure from where the OP is transferring, but the full scholarship is sure a draw. If it wasn’t for that, I think NJ has some issues right now with its schools, and I would tend to pick Lehigh for a better college experience and a lot more personal attention.

I personally wouldn’t go to Rutgers but if you did get a full scholarship, that’s something to consider financially.

and you’re right MomofWildChild, NJ public schools aren’t that great right now in terms of getting a good college experience and getting personal attention, only exception would be TCNJ

^^^ Public universities in general are much worse off right now than private ones. That’s because they are at the whim of the state government and budget. Private universities, while also suffering in this economy, are not going to funnel money OUT of education.

I’m somewhat familiar with both schools, and they are very different. Even before a scholarship, Rutgers is less expensive.

MomofWildChild and pierre0913: What are you referring to as far as problems with NJ schools? D is a Junior and she was planning on looking at Rutgers (Mason Gross) and Westminster. It sounds like you both are aware of some particulars.
Thanks

I really don’t know many particulars, but for the past few years there have been heavy budget cuts and some funding issues (even before the recession really hit). There were a few NJ residents (I am not one) who expressed a lot of concern here on this forum about Rutgers due to this issue. I do have a nephew at TCNJ, and while there have been cuts, he has had a good experience so far.

Westminster = Rider (right?)

I’m not saying that public schools in New Jersey are terrible, I’m just saying that there are potential problems that you have to look at.

Rutgers is famous for its RU Screw which means that the administration is wrapped in red tape, I’ve heard that professors are not very interesting or accessible, the school is a suitcase college because New Jersey is a small state and many people go home on weekends

It is true that I got full sholaship at Rutgers. Because of some kind of public school problem with Rutgers such as that the school is going down every year, I am thinking that a private school has a better study environment, more interesting professors, a better program. So, I am thinking if it is worth to invest some money to get a better education. Thank you guys for your advice.
