My potential program does not require linear algebra for civil engineering, but my adviser said that it could help when I get to Structures. Is this because of matrices and lots of variables?
I’d say Linear Algebra is really useful for civil engineering, since you’ll be dealing with changing coordinate systems, scaling problems, etc.
Thank you for the response. Much appreciated.
A lot of engineering professors seem to wonder why linear algebra is not required. If you have room to take it, it is most definitely recommended.
There’s also the issue of linear algebra being absolutely fundamental to numerical methods. The concepts you will learn in it such as linear independence and orthogonality and eigensolutions are really quite applicable to many engineering topics as well. It’s a really helpful class on many levels.
