I am going to major in engineering at Rutgers and I am a woman. I was planning on applying to live in Barr Hall since it's in the middle of everything. I know that living on the Douglass Engineering floor is just for woman and there are other benefits towards it. However, other than the benefits, is there any difference between living on the Douglass floor and just living in Barr Hall as a woman? Do all engineering women living in Barr Hall live on that floor? Will I be somewhat isolated from the males outside of the classroom? Also, will I be obligated to attend many meetings or have any other special responsibilities as someone living in Douglass?

I don’t know anything about the actual meetings/responsibilities involved with being in DRC, but in terms of the layout in Barr Hall, they put all the DRC girls in the smaller wing of the fourth floor. So the whole floor isn’t just girls (unless they get 62 engineering students to be in DRC and live in Barr Hall, but that doesn’t happen). There are also non-DRC girls all throughout the building as well. So no not all the girls are on the same floor, and no you aren’t completely isolated from males. Your immediate neighbors would be girls, but there will still be mostly guys in the building. Barr Hall is definitely the best dorm to be as an engineering freshman, btw. You’ll meet a lot of great people and always have people that are in your classes. I made so many friends as a freshman, including the people I live with now going into senior year.

I hope that helps. I’m willing to answer any other questions as well.
