Anyone know about Luther C? PrincetonReview did not list it .but us.news and Forbes did.Is it a nice C?

Nice in what way?

Yes, it’s a nice college. What do you want to know?

Luther College in Decorah, Iowa is a fine smaller regional LAC.

here’s a source or 2 for info

The daughter of a friend attended Luther several years ago and enjoyed the school, and town, very much. I think what Luther is best known for is their annual games of Naked Soccer, which has been part of Senior Week for about 20 years.

It has a reputation in the Upper Midwest for excellent music programs. I know several people who went there & liked it a lot.

A friend of my daughter is now a senior at Luther. She has loved her college experience and found that it has provided an excellent education and wonderful internship opportunities. As a non-music major, she has had ample opportunity to participate and perform (she happens to be a very talented vocalist.)

Naked soccer at Luther has been banned since 2002.

John, the ban has not stopped the annual event.

Luther College is a wonderful small private college. The valley is absolutely beautiful in the fall. Opened a new science building (with cadaver lab) this past year and has a a nice reputation for pre-med and music. Quaint small town, stop by the Whippy Dip for ice cream and if you are adventurous explore the ice caves!

My dughter wants to study accounting in a small LAC where professors pay much more attentiion on students and then she hopes to study her master courses in University .In this case does Luther fit for her ?

One of my young friends graduated from Luther about 3 years ago, and then got her masters in a southern public university, where she got the departmental award as the top teaching assistant, and within 4 months of graduation got a Miami job related to the field in which she got her masters.

She is one of the nicest, most thoughtful, talented (excellent writer and singer) and ethical people I know, and says she had a good experience at Luther. If she’s typical of Luther’s graduates, it must be a very nice place that provides a good education.

Luther is also very generous with Merit aid if she is a good student. Another similar IIAC school with very good business program is Wartburg College in Waverly. Know several senior business students here who already have jobs waiting for them in the spring. From what I understand the profs are very accessible.

We have friends in Decorah, Iowa, and get there frequently. It’s a cute little town set in a picturesque river valley, surrounded by bluffs and forests. Not at all the standard image of Iowa. But then, it’s almost Minnesota, just 15 miles or so from the border. The local public radio station is a Minnesota Public Radio affiliate, and the major health care provider is a branch of the Mayo Clinic.

Reminds me of a joke they tell in those parts. Seems there was a farmer whose land was right on the Minnesota-Iowa border. He always thought he lived in Minnesota until the surveyor came and told him his house was actually in Iowa. The farmers says, “That’s a relief! No more Minnesota winters!”

We had an intern from Luther College at the museum in NY that I was working at seven or eight years ago. He was a rising senior majoring in history with a museum studies minor. Very sharp and well prepared for his internship. Also one of the best writers I encountered over a 30-year career working with college undergrad and graduate interns. He went on to grad school at either Wisconsin or George Washington, can’t recall which. I’ve got to admit I hadn’t really heard of Luther College beforehand, and haven’t encountered any Luther alums since, but that experience left a positive impression of the school.

thanks a lot ,everyone!
But Wartburg College is a tier 3 school?

Gaitian, I see the same thing, that Wartburg is a tier 3 school. That leads to a question I have on things like that. It’s tier 3 in liberal arts colleges. Luther is tier 1 in that category. How much really separates colleges in each tier? Is it that big of a deal?

What if you want to compare them to a college in a different category, is that like comparing apples to oranges? Say you find one that is in tier 2 of baccalaureate colleges. How can you make good comparisons to those in the liberal arts category? I am assuming some of this might be fluff and shouldn’t be taken too seriously if the “fit” of the college seems right for the student. Any perspective on how to evaluate those rankings in the real world?
