I have an insurance but it applies only in the country that issued it abroad - not in the US. Even if it did apply for medical services in the US, its coverage would still not meet the Georgetown requirements. I really do not want to be charged these $1700 dollars so should I waive? They say they "may" request a proof but will they? I will feel safer having insurance but I really need this money to help me get through during the breaks when I have to leave the campus. I already had to take out a loan and I would want to use it for my immediate basic needs, not possible but hypothetical situations of injury.

They do request proof. You’ll have to give them the policy number, etc. There’s no way to get away with it. There are, however, insurance plans that cost less.

^Its not worth it I guess.

you are welcome to look for insurance policies that cost less, but you might end up having to pay more in co-pay. and they WILL ask for proof.

far too risky.

If he’s willing to have no health insurance, then I’m sure he won’t mind having a high co-pay. I know blue-shield’s cheapest plan is a mere $60 or so a month - they say that the cost depends on location and that the cheapest counties are at $52, so I’m guessing Washington,D.C. shouldn’t be much more expensive. The deductible is $2,900 and they’ll only pay 40% after you’ve met that. You get 100$ upfront for ER visits, though.

I do have all the information they are asking for from my old school insurance which is still in force this summer because the system lets me log in. What if I will give Georgetown this info? I do have a policy number and a member number, briefly I have all they are asking for.

One of the conditions that your insurance must have is that it must be in force throughout the academic year.
