Is it ever stated that there is a preference? Or stated that they do not care which is submitted?

So even if you’re not doing engineering and choose to do a math it would seem that they don’t officially have a preference, but keep in mind that some colleges do directly state that they prefer Math 2 and some will only accept Math 2

Ah, I see. Right there on the FAQ. Thank you.

logically speaking, mathII is preferred over mathI.
most of the mathI course is covered in the SAT itself, so colleges prefer applicants who take the “more challenging” mathII, rather than taking the safe route through mathI. however, mathI has a horrible scoring curve; much like the SAT itself. i have often seen students score better in mathII than in I. so go figure…

I don’t think you’re correct. If an applicant is coming in with an interest in math or science or obviously as an engineer, then he/she should probably take the Math 2 SAT II. However, for applicants who are stronger in humanities, then either the Math 1 or the Math 2 SAT II would be fine. My daughter, an alumna, took Math 1 as did many of her classmates who were not particularly interested in math or science.

It states specifically that engineering candidates can take either. This to me means that there is either no preference, or the actual preference remains ambiguous.
