Miami University offered my daughter a 13k/year instate scholarship brining the cost to 42k/yr. We could also send her to ASU/U of A our instate schools for much cheaper. However, her top school is Miami. I have heard great things about Miami and it has a respectable reputation so I was curious if anyone has knowledge about if it is worth the up charge.
Quick question. Are you in state for MiamiOH? Because if you are in-state a $13K per year scholarship would not have the COA for Miami at $42K per year?
Everyone so know who went to MiamiU enjoyed the experience and the parents were also pleased. It’s a very nice school. Whether it’s worth the additional cost over your state flagships lies primarily on how well you can afford to pay the cost differential. If it’s no problem, I say “do it”. If it’s going to require debt, stress a definite change in retirement options, make you financially at risk for years to come, it is not IMO
@Patrick615 It sounds as though you may live in Arizona. (?) If so, your daughter has solid choices.
We, too, live outside Ohio, and my S19 committed to Miami. But then Miami’s offer was so good that it’s much less for him to go there than to our state flagship. Even with the additional travel costs. Direct bill will land somewhere near or on top of $50k/year; we’ll know more when the tuition increase is announced in July.
I completely agree with @cptofthehouse. That’s good advice.
