Also, is it possible to get into state schools like UMich on numbers alone-or should i put a lot of effort in my app?

Aiming higher eh?! LOL! Well, I guess there's MIT, Stanford, Cal and Caltech.

At any rate, you don't have to spend sleepless nights writing your essays, but at least give them their due attention. You are as good as in, possibly with a nice merit scholarship.

Yeah, I'd say safety with money.

dont worry about the essay..a friend of mine applied to a couple big state Us for kicks, 2350 SATs, 3.7 GPA .put random letters on his essays and got in..he was just trying to prove the point that big state Us dont read esays, turned out only 1 of the 5 rejected him.

You should receive admission and a little bit of scholarship money.

Reweigh your GPA so it is out of a 4.0 scale based on the following:
A=4.0
B=3.0
C=2.0
D=1.0
E/F=0.0

Furthermore, UMich does not superscore; it takes the highest score of one sitting.

Good luck.

OK..so that would make my SAT 2280, and my GPA 4.0/4.0 (I have all A's and A+s for 10/11 which i believe is what they use)-change anything?

a 2280 and 4.0 is essentially what i had. i got a 20k/year scholarship. i had more aps than you, but i guess that depends on your hs. my hs was a lot weaker than yours too. impressive psat though.

I'll be applying to UMich too. I'm wondering if I can consider them a safety.

ACT 36
GPA 4.0UW

Similar to you.

yeah, you're a safety. why did you even bother asking?

they need the ego boost

Yeah, they might toss you a little paper too.

Wow, are these people for real? I mean, just the stuff the first poster listed is too much to be accomplished by any one person I know. Just plain insane. I don't know whether to believe it or not...

obviously if i want chances i want honest answers based on true stats because i can't make up stuff on my college app-and if you look around on this site, there are plenty of people more accomplished than me. and i really didn't need an ego boost-if i was asking just if i could get in, that's a different story. I just wanted to know if i could rely on it with scholarship $. but thanks guys who responded.

For merit money, you will most likely get the 15,000/year engineering scholarship for OOS students - but you can never be sure. I applied about a month earlier than my friend last year (we both had identical stats that were similar to yours) and I got the engineering scholarship, while somehow he never got anything. So you never know what can happen.

Your extracurriculars are extremely good though, so you have a very good chance. I would just suggest you apply early to ensure that you have the opportunity to get some money.

20,000/year I meant...

I know, I love how all people have to do is look at the colleges website and consider the stats. If the avg SAT is around a 2030 and you have a 2280, then DUH, you are going to get in. You got a perfect score on the Math 2C but can't figure that out? Sorry to be blunt, but it does sound arrogant.

ok, as i said earlier, my question is not about whether or not i will get in. i want to know what type of scholarship opportunities are available-and this, unfortunately, is a bit more difficult information to find than the sat ranges. thank you, kastsm.

sorry to be honest, but i know at least 15 harvard/yale bound kids with way more amazing stats (higher SATs, including 2 2370+ and better ECs) than you do who applied to U of M as safety. they got in but didnt get any money. money is a crap shot.
seriously people, 2280 is not AMAZING. i have seen enough ordinary people at my school having that score.

but safety? ya...for sure.

2370...3.4 UW in hardest classes. Safety or not?
