Hey guys! I will be attending the umich college of engineering this fall and I was just wondering whether it is considered to be a great achievement to get in.

errr, yes. It’s a top engineering school.

“bluedevilsfan”… I’m guessing you had your heart set on Duke. U of M is certainly of similar caliber.

Congrats on becoming one of the leaders and best. We have a lot of school pride, and with good reason! You’ll meet plenty of brilliant people here.

i was curious about average admit profiles for instate candidates there. Avg. gpa/act scores?
I’m in state and was wondering if a 3.7/33 would get me in? (Lots of honors/ap’s).

My son is instate and got in with a 3.9 UW gpa and a 32 ACT. You’re definitely in the ballpark.

ashiej7 - your GPA of 3.7 is a bit low for CoE. Is that an UW GPA or a W GPA? Lots of honors/APs won’t help you out unless you do well in them (have As). An admissions counselor said that one should only take honors/APs if he/she gets some sort of A in them or then it will hurt his/her admission profile. Here are the statistics for CoE: [Facts + Figures | Michigan Engineering](http://www.engin.umich.edu/about/facts.html). Another option is to apply to LSA and then transfer to CoE later on.

ashiej7- I think you should be fine given you have a decent amount of ECs and a tough courseload. I got a 31 on the ACT and a 3.8 gpa on the 4.5 scale (I don’t even think I was even in the top 10% of my class) and I still got in. Plus, I’m out of state (NJ) and Asian. However, I had a lot of APs and honors classes.

ash - you’re a match.

I had a 3.7 UW with almost all honors/APs, a 1450/2190 SAT, and great leadership ECs and was waitlisted (basically rejected). I think I was on the fence but just ended up not making it. They have made it clear that GPA is the most important factor in admission. In response to the original question, it is most definitely a commendable accomplishment to be accepted into the CoE.
