Is Middlebury good academically for Economics?

I think the question is implicit from the title of this thread, however, my brother seems like more of a liberal arts kid than I am because he likes to study english and foreign languages much more than mathematics and science.

Bump, need an answer!

Bump, come on someone has to know!

it’s more lib arts based

good 4 i-banking

Yeah I supposed so, but is there a drawback in studying economics with a liberal arts base? Is it better to study it preprofessionally? Also, how is Middlebury’s postgraduate placement?

Middlebury is relatively low (in comparison to its general standing as a top 10 LAC) in sending grads to get a PhD in economics, ranking #63 among LACs with 0.3 alums per year getting a degree in the latest figures I have seen. I don’t think that’s a knock on the department so much as not necessarily the bent of its students. Middlebury does pretty well in placement for Wall Street jobs and is well represented in top 10 MBA programs.

I personally have more respect for studying economics in a liberal arts setting but that may be the more intellectual background I sought. UG business just seems like a waste to me but appears to be in more vogue than the last decade. Now that the salad days of Wall Street have dissipated for what seems like a while I wonder if that will shift back again.
