Hey
does anyone know for sure if Middlebury's january 1 deadline is postmarked or received?
The website says 'mailed' which sounds unclear to me.
thx!

Why don't you do it online? That is really the safest way. You don't want anything to get lost. If you don't have access to a computer, which you probably do, since you are posting on an internet web site, then I would say mail it as soon as you can. Postmarked is what they want.

Mailed by January 1 is the normal interpretation. That is if you can find a post office that is open on January 1.

And, no the Middlebury supplement essay cannot be done on line.

Thanks :) i hope they are open on the 31st.
I already submited the common app and i'm just mailing the graded essay and supplement essay... isn't that what everyone is doing?

i'm faxing mine.

i think you are able to email all materials
"Note: All supplementary materials including the graded essay and the Pre Application Supplement essay must be mailed, faxed or e-mailed by November 15 for Early Decision 1 and by January 1 for Regular Decision or Early Decision 2. Note that supplementary materials are NOT uploaded through the Common App or the Middlebury Pre-Application websites."

I thought I read at Midd's website that all the offices are closed until Jan 1? So they can't really receive any mail before that... I mean, they won't know what came which day.

here's my problem. I'm done with all of the materials on my end, but my guidance office at my hs takes the teacher recs and the counselor rec and sends them all together. My teachers gave my counselor the recs - but now it's winter break and i have no way of knowing whether all of the materials will be/have been sent out by january 1st until i get back to school. do you think colleges will accept materials from my school later than the jan 1 deadline as long as all of my materials were in on time??

Graded essay and supplemental stuff should be mailed by Dec 31 if possible. I missed the last pickup on Dec 31 and ended up sending everything a few days later since there was New Year's and a Sunday too. I was worried but they accepted everything... Don't worry if grades and recs don't go out until after the 1st. It takes schools a few weeks to sort through all the apps and then if they're nice, they'll contact you and tell you if anything's missing.

Here's a funny story regarding deadlines. When I was applying I procrastinated like crazy. My parents luckily pushed me to get things done on time. Unfortunately, they were out of town when my Midd application was due. I didn't finish it until the day it was due. Luckily I lived only about an hour and a half from the Emma Willard House. Right after school that day I drove to Middlebury and hand delivered my application. When I turned it in the person who accepted it for me told me they'd put a note on my application that I had hand delivered it. As it turned out my procrastination may have helped me. I was accepted ED. The funny thing is that my application for Amherst was due on the same day I got my acceptance to Midd and I hadn't even begun filling it out when I received word that I'd gotten in at Middlebury. Good thing I did. haha.
