Is modesty necessary to succeed?

no
why: Bill Gates

This post makes a lot of sense

..............

that's great...

moving on

I like it...but, Bill Gates has also done some very philanthropic deeds as well, but hey, If you got it, Flaunt it...

he doesn't donate millions of dollars, who cares about the poor

OMG UR SO SMRT!!!!!11

.. oh

modesty is not required for success - there's plenty of snooty successful rich ppl in this world who like to show off/flaunt, etc... But it does make a successful person approachable and well-liked.

You have to strike a balance. You have to be confident and let people know that you can do the job, but you can't appear to be overconfident or arrogant.

there's something called karma you know.
be modest now and be happy later.
be selfish and snobby now and suffer later.

just look at donald trump.

Wealthy people may not be modest now, but I doubt acting like a total diva got them to the top.

In the real world, modesty can get you places. I know it has for me.

I agree with kc_lady. But I must say, a lot of people hate those flambouyant tycoons. Do they care? I don't think so.
(I would suggest striking a balance, like others have mentioned.)

donald trump is flat ass broke,

and for the record soccerguy, even sarcasm aside, gates has his own foudation and just search "Bill gates donates" in google and he has probably given away over 2 billion in the past few years atleast.

bigmac, that's what i was aiming at

"You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give."

Actually, he does. According to Businessweek, he's given away roughly 27 Billion dollars, with a remaining net worth of around 48 billion. That means he's given away more than 1/3 of his fortune.

bill gates is a g... but modesty doesnt matter unless u care about making friends...

It depends on what your definition of success is. If it only means money, you can become successful with any type of personality. But if you want people to like you, it's better to be modest.
