Is MoHo worth the cost?

Hey everyone! I'm currently deciding between Mount Holyoke and a public honors college (Barrett at ASU). Attending Mount Holyoke would be a dream come true, but it would also require taking out student loans. In comparison, Barrett would be relatively inexpensive. I'd love to hear any input on why you think Mount Holyoke is worth the investment, or why I'm better off at Barrett (and not being in debt).

If this helps, I'm planning on majoring in International Relations, but I'm also interested in English and Economics. I want to attend graduate school.

well coming from one of the five college consortium, i think that mt holyoke would be the best. i have a fair amount of friends going to that school, and they love it. there are a ton of internship opportunities, and although it is a bit more expensive than ASU the mt holyoke name would definitely be better recognized in the future

Obviously finances are important. But you’d need to weigh up some pros/cons of each school. Have you visited both? Where do you feel you ‘fit’ the best, where can you see yourself graduating from in 4 years?

Have you spoken to current students/faculty from the departments that interest you? Are you able to sit in on classes if you visit?

Is your financial aid package likely to change (for better or worse) in the next 4 years?

What are the records for students attending grad programs from both schools?

Have you considered transferring to MHC later, thus saving you a bit of money?

These are just a few questions  I’d have a chat to financial aid, explain you’re concerned about the cost and see if they can suggest anything, and visit if you can between now and May 1st. Best of luck making your decision

If you haven’t already, visit both schools, pronto. VERY different vibes and approaches. How much debt are you considering? Big difference between 10k v. 100k.

Mount Holyoke is definitely the best choice. Check out the website for Mount Holyoke’s international relations guru, Vincent “Vinnie” Ferraro. You do NOT want to miss studying with him and the opportunities that you will have as a Mount Holyoke IR major.
