<p>Honors classes only have honors students in them at all the honors colleges that we’ve visited. </p>
<p>Running EFC calculators is a good idea, but it doesn’t tell you “cost”. All it does is tell if you qualify for any federal aid (which isn’t much). The term EFC is VERY misleading. </p>
<p>You need to find out how much your parents will contribute…even if it’s only a few thousand per year, you need to know that. And, if they can’t contribute anything, then you need to know that, too.</p>
<p>Planning to use loans to pay for college costs is not a good idea. It’s actually a recipe for having a very difficult adult life.</p>
<p>Longhaul mentions that Alabama has assured scholarships and great honors dorms. That is true. Both my boys have big scholarships there and have loved honors housing. The honors college is very good and the classes are limited to 15 students per class. The campus is gorgeous, too.</p>
