Well, your schedule is definitely possible but don’t plan on having a job or anything like that. But when are you taking Gen Chem II? Isn’t that a pre-req for Ochem at your school? The only semester I see as being an issue would be your 2nd Fall semester. Ochem and Calc 2 both require a lot of homework so you are going to really have to sacrifice your social life if you truly want to understand the material. All Chem Labs also take a lot of class time up (~6 hours per week not including extra time to do writeups).

Last Fall, I took Ochem I, Organism Bio (Zoo & Botany in 1 class), Physics I Mechanics (out of 3 semester sequence), Calc II, Spanish I, and 2nd English class. I was SOOO busy with school work but I managed to get A’s in every class but Ochem (in which I had a high B). This semester, I am taking Ochem II, Calc III, Phys 3 Thermo/Light (I skipped Phys 2 Elec/Mag), an Ecology Bio class, and Spanish 2. Even though I’m taking one less class, Physics is ridiculously hard so I spend even more time doing hw than I did last semester. I’m expecting A’s in everything except Phys & Ochem (B’s).

So, if you are an overachiever, you can definitely maintain this schedule BUT you can NOT get behind. Most people take 3 years to complete all of this FYI so don’t kill yourself every semester and blow your GPA by trying to get it done ASAP. But on a side note, why are you retaking all these math classes that you’re already familiar with?

Do you actually need to take algebra, trigonometry, and pre-calculus if you had that in high school? College students are supposed to be immediately ready to take calculus based on having completed up to pre-calculus in high school.

Thank you so much everyone, especially Killmyentourage.

I have to retake them because on the placement test I forgot algebra and didn’t pass that portion so I didn’t make it to the advanced math.

Chem 202 is not a pre-req for chem 255 at my school.
Also it is not required by assit.org for my major.
I may take it though, as I am going to challenge prep chem since I got A’s in chem a/b in high school.

Yeah I would definitely suggest taking the Chem placement test. Mine was multiple choice and I think I only got about 25/40 and I was able to go directly into GenChem(which really wasn’t even that difficult) . That would free up your schedule too. Is there any way you could take the math placement test again? At least maybe to get out of Alg & Trig… I would try because that would save you so many unnecessary classes.

That’s a pretty standard schedule for anyone who wants to complete pre-reqs for Bio or Chem majors in 2 years. I’m not sure if the OP is planning on TAP but that requires 5 Honors classes also which they would have to integrate into that schedule. Since they posted it in a separate personal thread, I don’t really think they’re trying to show off though in one page, the schedule does look intense.

I’m actually glad people come here to ask questions. Most people I know have had a terrible time with CC counselors and they always end up screwing something up or being wrong about fulfilling pre-reqs or something. I personally try to address most questions that I have some knowledge about so people have a better idea about transfer requirements, plus all of these forums serve as a guide to future students.

@killmyentourage, do you think it is possible to transfer to UC-Berkeley after only two years at a CC?
I want to do it, but I’m scared I’ll screw up my GPA.
I do pretty well in school.
I got straight A’s this semester in AP art history, precalc, and honors anatomy.

i have taken two 4 unit classes over winter and let me tell you its not fun. It burnt me out for the spring semester. i would recommend only taking one of those classes for winter. but thats just my opinion.

Yes, absolutely. My best friend was accepted as an MCB major and she completed her entire IGETC and all her pre-reqs (Bio 1A 1B, Genchem 1&2, Ochem 1&2, Calc 1&2) within 2 years and 1 summer session in-between. She has exactly 70 units and no AP credit, but I know she finished the American Institutions stuff and Foreign Language in HS though. She actually wants to switch to IB but she is missing the Physics sequence and she was told to speak with the counselor at Orientation to see if she can declare IB instead. Just so you know, the College of L&S transfers don’t have to declare a major until after their Fall semester at Cal, but since she is 2 semesters behind on Physics technically, they might not allow her to declare it (due to not having both the IB Physics requirements before declaration). That’s why I told you to make sure you at least start Physics!

After HS, she was only accepted to UCR so she decided to go to CC. Over the past 2 years, I know she’s worked ridiculously hard and originally applied to Cal with a 4.0 and only earned a single B in Ochem1 this past Fall. You do need to keep in mind that she tried to take the super easy IGETC classes rather than ones like you listed (Honors etc.) which was how she was able to keep her GPA up. Also, her and I opted to take some transferable online classes that were known to be easier than in class and that worked better with our schedule (we both took Calc 1&2 online). She also doesn’t work except for occasionally babysitting. I, on the other hand, wasted basically my entire first year of school taking worthless general education classes, though I think it would have taken me 3 years to finish at my CC anyway since in addition to the classes she took, I had to complete Calc3 & Linear Algebra and my 2 Physics classes. But overall, yeah it’s possible.
