Your ECs are impressive, especially your awards.

Well, that’s my opinion. Do you have any specific focus though?

i have a focus on ecology (got experience when i volunteered) so i will talk about it.

THANK YOU! I APPRECIATE EVERY MINUTE U SPENT ON MY INFO!

How could u rate it from 20?

Thank u in advance!

If you have the stats for the top schools, your ECs are competitive. Scientific research is generally a big hit, as is winning competitions. Writing one of your essays on ecology will help bring that to life to demonstrate that there’s substance behind this list.

If you’re an international applicant looking for financial aid, though, it’s still a long shot. Schools turn down amazing international applicants when they’re asking for lots of money because they have to handle financial aid for international applicants themselves, as the government doesn’t really pitch in.

yes,im international applicant from Georgia(europe, caucasia).so im not from india or china and i hope it will somewhat help me.
i will do my best.its main i think.

THANKS AGAIN.

guys ,what about volunteering.are not they impressive for Amherst or yale, for example?

please consider that i have left one more year so volunteer hours will rise to 1000 hours!

thank u

The number of hours that someone volunteers is not impressive: Many kids do 1000 or more over 4 years. It’s what you accomplish as a volunteer that is impressive or not. Don’t waste your time accumulating hours just to hit some random number. It proves only that your family is affluent enough that you don’t have to work.

i didnt get it.

i worked for several places so i have a work experience and if i am a volunteer does it mean my parents are affluent ?

u mean impressive experience,yes ? that i should mantion in essay?right?

thanks!

1,000 hours of volunteering definitely implies at least a middle class life-style. Most kids from families that aren’t affluent expect their kids to work - either to earn some pocket money or to pay for their college expenses. In some cases, a kid’s income is critical to supporting the family during a tough time. If you have 1,000+ hours of volunteer work, your family probably wasn’t counting too heavily on you to earn - unless you accumulated all those hours either before or after some major change in the family’s financial situation.

AS I GUESS:
1)Experience in volunteering to write an outstanding Essay is most important and not just spent hours.
2)500 hours of volunteer work is BEST I CAN WRITE IN ECS!(when a family has very little income-8000 $ in a year)

3)My self-motivation (earning money by selling things) and work as Sales/PR manager will look well in ECs.

AND ALL THIS 3 FACTORS (according to my family situation)WILL perfectly describe my personality!am i right?

I APPRECIATE UR EVERY SPENT MINUTE FOR ME,FOR AN UNKNOWN PERSON!

can anyone else,rate my ECs?

Thanks again

doctoribach, I should qualify: What I’ve said applies to US-based students. Internationals may be evaluated differently. My point is that your ECs will be viewed in the context of where you are applying from, and especially what opportunities you had and took advantage of relative to others from your country and your social class.

how do u think,my ECs are competive for amherst, yale or even harvard?

Im east europian so it raises my chanses.almost 90 % international students are from china, india, korea…
