is my essay too long?

it’s a narrative about marching band. I think I’m going to end up some more essays anyway, but should I toss this one out? It’s 882 words, and I’d like to turn it in for the common app.

can I pm anyone?

I'd say adhere to the 500 word limit for the commonapp. Just read over it many times and try to cut all the fat and the unnecessary parts. I cut my essay from 680 to under 500 and I got in.

it's not really cut-able. It's a narrative, I'm telling a story. Every paragraph colors it a little. I'd really like to avoid chopping it down.

Talk to the colleges that you will be sending the essay. That's what I did, and they said that my 780 word essay would be fine for the common app. They didn't want me to sacrifice quality by cutting it down to 500 words.
