Is my GPA too low?

It's been a while so I decided to call back today and find out if they had made a decision yet. Unlike last time, I was put on hold by the person I spoke to, so I figured that I was going to hear something more substantial than the previous times that I called.

The woman returned and said that she had spoken to an admissions officer and that I would recieve a reply in the mail shortly. I asked if I would hear by e-mail and she said no. Regular mail. I guess that means that OneStart won't be updated with it anytime soon, either.

I took this as a negative. Why would I not be told on e-mail like the people who were accepted? Why would I not be told on the phone like the people who were accepted? It seems as though the e-mail is a fast response for people who got in. It's a pat on the back. After all, why would they want to rush news of rejection to somebody? Same thing with telling someone on the phone. They probably don't know how people are going to react to being told over the phone that they're rejected, so they simply don't do it. It makes sense.

I'm bracing for a rejection letter later this week, or early next week.

You may have been deferred... don't give up hope! And you may have been accepted, but I doubt it, after hearing your phone conversation.

I've lurked for only a short time here, but I don't recall anyone hearing by email until after they'd received their packet. My son got his packet weeks ago and still hasn't received any email. Are you sure you're not confusing Indiana with what you've read they do at other schools? It sounds like you're upset, which is understandable, but like A2Wolves said, it may be that they just ask for mid-year grades or something.

I won't really be that upset if I get rejected from Indiana. My goal is to go to a large state school of some sort. It doesn't have to be Indiana. I wll be upset if I don't get into any of the schools that I want to go to. I did originally peg Indiana as one of the schools that I had a better shot at than the other ones, but the ones that I'm really counting on are the in-state ones like Buffalo and Albany. Getting into Indiana would be great, though.

My S heard from Indiana via e-mail and got his acceptance package in the mail 1 or 2 days later. He applied in early September, though (although transcript was not mailed by the high school until early October). He heard right before Thanksgiving. Keep in mind that they have had an increase in the number of applications this year. It may be that they just have not gotten to you yet.

I went to check on OneStart today and here is what it said:

Status Summary
Your application has been reviewed and an admission decision has been made. You will receive notification in the mail. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Admissions.

Does anyone have a OneStart account who got in? Was the account updated when you got in? I'm looking for some sort of justification. I mean, it doesn't really make sense that they wouldn't say it online, even if it is, in fact, a rejection. It just seems odd. Either way, I'm going to call tomorrow and find out why they're not telling me now. I wonder if they'll have a good excuse.

Actually that is normal. Don't worry, you are not ruled out yet!

When I got in, it said "register for classes" in bold on OneStart as one of the links. There were different tabs, different format. Although it still said they were missing my transcript, lol.

Just found out. I was rejected from Indiana. Oh well, what are you gonna do?

Sorry about that Regretful. You can't really compare admissions stats from last year since they've got double the # of apps this year. That should be bumping up selectivity, however, only if all those extra apps are of higher quality.

Seems like I will be rejected as well :(

Why do you say that, Sympathy?
