I recently found out that my GPA is a 3.57 unweighted, and a 3.9 weighted. I thought it was much higher, but that's what it is officially. The reason for it being to so low is freshman year. My complete lack of motivation lead me to a 3.37 GPA (3.52 weighted). My sophomore year was a 3.63 (4.03 weighted) and junior was a 3.70 (4.24 weighted). This past year I also rose 33 spots in my class rank at a competitive high school (top 20 in state) to become ranked 66/312.
In my defense, I have always taken a rigorous curriculum, with honors whenever applicable and I will have taken 8 A.P. classes by the time I graduate.
Part of my problem freshman year was that I struggled with ADD, which I overcame sophomore year. Also, my very recent performance has been very good; I had straight A's second semester of my junior year in 3 A.P. classes and 2 honors.
Will colleges look at how my GPA is rising and be impressed by my growth as a student, or will they simply look at my GPA as unacceptable?
Also, will a high test score be a further testament of my current self? This summer I have been studying non-stop for my ACT in September, and my studying has paid off with me averaging a 33 on practice ACT tests.

You have an upward trend which is good. It all depends on the school you are looking at. If you are looking at Ivy’s you still would have a hard time getting in. A 3.57 isn’t awful and will get you into a lot of top schools, just not Ivy’s.

I’m not looking at Ivy’s or any of the other Ivy league equivalent schools. The schools i like most are University of Richmond, Boston University and Northeastern. Do you think with a high ACT score (32+) I will still have a decent chance? @youngandtired

Your stat are very similar to mine. I think you still have a great shot at U of R (I can’t really comment on the other). Can you have your GC mention the ADD and the steps you took to overcome it in their rec? That was what I did and it helped explain for me my junior year. The upward trend is also very good!
