Is My High School Average?

@fairy dreams:

Why should I leave it? I can’t.

Is it a public school? If it’s a private school I would leave.

ohhhh… good point.

It would be an epic public school

It was a joke… but the GPA scale is a little nutty if you ask me.

But why? It’s a private school, but I am on a scholarship here, where I only pay like a few hundred dollars to go to (the tuition is $8,000 a year)

There is a school like right down the road from ours, which is also a private school. Out of a class of 82, they send:

(No athletes, here)
1-Columbia
6-Cornell
1-Penn
1-Yale

Other top schools:
1-McGill
1-Washington and Lee
1-Carnegie Mellon
1-University of Rochester
1-Purdue

For my school, the 7 kids who go to the Ivys are pretty much the graduates who go to top schools. There are like 12 kids who go to Syracuse, but hometown school, so doesn’t count.

In comparison to my public school (I do take into account the fact of there being more kids at my school), that is not a very good distribution among top schools.

It’s just that for a college prep high school, the Ivy matriculation is a little low. And you have a screwed up GPA system.

So if you were paying money to get an “edge” in admissions, it would kinda suck. But since you’re on a scholarship and if the teachers are good, then by all means stay :]

Damn, I would kill to attend a school like that. Cheap tuition and looks like you have nice opportunities lol.

I go to a school out of country, $20k tuition, max financial aid awarded is $1k (ridiculously stingy school). Only 5 APs, taught by horrible teachers. More than 1/4 of the guys in the school smoke (and it’s a very small school), etc. Very crappy and nutty school.

So you guys really want to know about college acceptances at my school? Here you go:

(Yeah, the other top schools were just the ivy leagues kids or the SU kids applying to them, using them as safetys, reaches, or as second choices.)

that’s pretty good: approximation of my school

EMCC - 50
University of Maine (Orono) - 20
University of Maine non-flagship - 30
Small Maine privates that aren’t ranked or well known (e.g. Husson, St. Joseph’s, Beal) - 10
USNWR Ranked Schools - 10

well, your school is already bettter than mine. We have double the class size, actually almost triple
like 294-300 and only about 5/6 kids went to ivies last year.

How do you guys know all these stats about your schools? I can’t find anything like that on naviance.

From personal memory/my school’s old “high school profile” or whatever they have

Woah wrong thread.

Wow, now people come on CC not only to blatantly try to pull praise for themselves, but for their entire ****ing high school!

Your schools max SAT is a 2270 and only ~7 matriculate to an Ivy per year? I’d say your school is average and has some heavy grade inflation.

but, look at the size of her class. there are about let’s say 108 people in her class and 7 got to ivies. so that’s about 6-7 percent of her school going to prestigious schools. i have triple her class size (bout 297 people) and the same number of people got to ivies. so that’s 2-3% of my class getting into ivies. Therefore, from my standpoint her school is a good school.

My school is good, but yours is epic!

memory. To the sky. Also, I went to my school’s graduation.
