Is My Junior Schdule Doable?

Hi, I’m currently a sophomore my schedule is mostly regular classes and one AP

Vocal Jazz
Algebra 2
Spanish 2
Biology
LA 10
AP Human Geogrpahy

I’m a hard worker and just recently we began to plan our junior year schedules and I’m wanting to do these courses and starting next year we get an extra elective.

1.Vocal Jazz
2.Pre Calc Honors
3.Spanish 3
4. APUSH
5. Chemistry
6. College In The High School (college level LA)
7. 1st semester will be Yoga
2nd will be Culinary (basically cooking)

I’m super worried that next year will be really stressful as junior year is supposed to be but I don’t want to be over my head and cause so much stress that I can’t have a life outside of grades and school. Last summer I took an online geometry course and was placed in regular algebra 2 and I’ve been very happy but next year because I enjoy math and I want to be with more hardworking students like myself I want to do honors. But I have heard bad things about it and am super worried that I’m goinh to be staying up late trying to solve 60 long problems and having more homework to do. I also want to know how can I handle APUSH and CIHIS because both will be rigorous but I really enjoy history and reading and writing as well. In addition I’m also occupied with being on the Wrestling team during the winter and am a guitar player and singer in a Rock fusion band.

My main questions are

  1. What is Precalculus Honors like? What are you guys taught in it? What are some good resources? How did you do well in an honors class?
  2. How did you survive APUSH?
  3. How did you balance school with activities? How do I do well my junior year?

4 what are things you have learned in the past?

I’m a very hard worker and I made sure that I only did AP or honors in stuff I actually enjoyed. Those of you who took these classes what stuff should I know?

All the best,

Your schedule looks good.
Check with your guidance counselor to see whether you can either drop down to precalculus regular or honors us history if (respectively) precalculus honors or APUSH turn out to be too much - deadlines, conditions…

Pre-calc resources: See Khan Academy website.

I think your schedule looks reasonable…are you more of a STEM person or more of a Liberal arts?

If the latter, then APUSH is good. If the former, I would do Honors Chem and Honors History.

Im more of a liberal arts guybut math is one of those excpetions that I do enjoy a lot.

Your schedule definitely looks doable. Honors PreCalc will be a challenge, but if you work hard you can definitely manage the work.

Hello! I’m a sophomore as well, but I can give some info about the classes!

Hnrs Precalc & Trig (which I’m currently taking)

  • Revolves around algebra and the knowledge of formulas
  • A fun class if you enjoy solving puzzles as you will be proving trig proofs
  • Easier than Hnrs Alg 2 to me as there is little to know graphing (which I was terrible at)
  • Slow paced class, easy to get the hang of things

APUSH

  • A memorizing class
  • A writing class/ interpreting class
  • Knowing how to connect events and look at things from a different angle

How to do activities and do well in school? What have you learned?
I’m involved in quite a lot of ecs and I’ve always managed just fine while taking rigorous classes by following these tips:

  • DO NOT procrastinate. I’ve learned that the hard way. Do your homework the day you receive it, if you don’t understand it, then IMMEDIATELY talk to your teacher and get help.
  • Understand that if you want to do well and do ecs you will need to make sacrifices. Whether this means dropping a hard course, quitting an ec, or not being able to hang out with friends often, you will need to sacrifice.
  • Take a class not because it’s AP, Hnrs, or getting the extra weighted credit/trying to move up your rank, but because you have a genuine interest in it.
  • Do not do ecs just because it looks good, same advice as above, do it because you really want to do it.
  • Do not over stress yourself, calm down.
  • One bad grade will not ruin your chances of college, besides colleges like to see improvement.

Best of luck to you, hope this helps!
