Dear Admissions Committee,

I recently received notification from the University of Missouri- St. Louis that my application for admission for the Fall 2014 semester has been denied. The reason given for this denial was that my academic record did not meet the minimum requirements for admission. For my ACT score of 18 my GPA of 3.29 was only .21 below the minimum GPA requirement of 3.5 for UMSL’s admission. In addition, I do not feel that this combined score is an accurate reflection of my ability to succeed in college. I feel that if given the chance of admission, I will be able to succeed.
Despite my ACT score, my grades in high school are mostly As and Bs and have maintained honor roll throughout my highschool career as I make my grades top priority before anything else. As a result of this, I will strive to do my best if admitted in UMSL. This shows not only I am a well rounded student but also a dedicated, hard working and motivated student. I am taking ACC Western Civilization which is a college level course at Trinity Catholic High school through UMSL’s Advanced Credit Program. Throughout this course, I have maintained an A average.
As a result of my success in the Advanced Credit Program through the University of Missouri St. Louis which shows not only am I able to meet the criteria to get into this course but also has undoubtedly prepared me and proves that I can succeed at college level courses. I have been recently awarded Cum laude and will be graduating with honors. My involvement in the healthcare career club during my senior year has proved to be a helpful, growing experience for me and has opened many career opportunities for me in the healthcare field. In addition, my involvement in the Youth in Government program has taught me invaluable skills in government. My plan for the future is to have a profession in the healthcare field.
I am currently undecided as to which career path I should take but I know UMSL will help me explore those career opportunities. Moreover, I have great interest in attending UMSL because of the educational quality I could gain. With UMSL’s diverse school, being a Filipino American I feel that I would be a great addition to your school. In my junior and senior year, I attended Japanese Language classes at Webster University every Saturday and wish to continue my education at UMSL. I wish to study abroad and I feel that UMSL will provide me with multiple opportunities offered for my career goal and interests.
I believe not only will this university help me obtain my goals, but also deepen my knowledge and help me grow as a successful college student. I am convinced this university will help improve and make me a better person person academically for admission for the fall of 2014. With the greatest respect, I wish to address this concern and respectfully request reconsideration for admission as a freshman student of UMSL. I have attached two letters of recommendation from my teachers at Trinity Catholic High School and hope that you will consider it in your decision. Thank you for your time.

You’re just way too below the requirement. “close” means by very little, ie., less than .05 or 1ACT point. They may look again if you were 3.46 and 20, but there’s just no way that appeal is going to work. Do send the letter, but be aware it’s highly unlikely to change anything.
Where else have you been admitted?

You didn’t meet a requirement. That’s not something you can appeal, really

^^ That’s what I said in the OP’s previous thread, but s/he is ignoring the advice: <a href=“Review my Letter of Appeal.
