Is my list okay?

I'm currently a junior, but I'm a planner so I already have a college list, and I just wanted to get some advice!

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 2290 - 790 CR, 720 M, 780 W (first time as a sophomore, taking again in January, hopefully breaking 2300, never taking again!)

SAT Subject Tests: taking in June, probably Math II, Lit and US History

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.98 (my school does GPA weird, so a 96+ is a 4, and it goes down from there)

Weighted GPA: 4.7 ish

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 5/about 400

AP (place score in parenthesis): Taking APUSH, Calc AB, Physics B and English Language, will take Euro, Comparative Gov, Bio and English Language next year. I'm a good test taker, so I expect 4's and 5's

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): I attended Summer Ventures in Science and Math, and a few minor writing awards, just state semi-finalist stuff

I take classes through the North Carolina School of Science and Math Online Program, so I'm taking Political Philosophy right now and I'll take Genetics next semester. I'm also planning on taking Multivariable Calc next year. Unfortunately, these are honors credit, but if they weren't I'd be number one in my class. Also, I had to apply, and even though it's not nearly as prestigious/selective as the residential school, I didn't feel like I was ready to leave home.

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):
Helping Hands Club (10-now, secretary 10, co-VP 11, probably co-Pres 12)
Varsity Golf (9-now)
Spring Musical (9-now, Stage Manager 10-now, Musical is huuuge at my school, so I'm in charge of 100+ people, ridiculously big time commitment)
International Thespian Society (10-now)
I know this seems pretty small, but we can't do NHS until senior year at my school, and I'm really involved in these, so depth not breadth right?

Job/Work Experience:
none

Volunteer/Community service:
150+ hours with kids program at my church

Other
State (if domestic applicant): NC (super rural)
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: not relevant

I'm not worried about essays when they come around because I've had really interesting/hard life experiences, my parents were just out of high school when I was born and both of my brothers were adopted, and I come across really well on paper.

So, anyway, the list:

Reaches:
Yale (probably SCEA)
Princeton

Matches (?):
Duke
Northwestern
Georgetown
Davidson

Safety:
UNC Chapel Hill (instate)

Do I have too many schools? Too few? I've tried to pick schools that I really like, not just because of prestige. Is this okay?

What does income bracket not relevant mean? If your parents are prepared to pay their school determined EFC then that’s fine. It looks like a good list and you can’t beat the fact UNC-CH is a safety. Good luck.

just dont freak out… chill. im a junior too fyi. ive good scores and stats too. and im applying for H, Y, princeton, dartsmouth, probably MIT + the regulars ones. just sit back and enjoy. schools dont want students who burst their ass studying like a freak.

Ahahaha, trust me, I’m not a study freak, I just needed some reassurance that I’m not completely crazy :)

well you seemed like one. and im not only talking about being a study freak. ive seen idiots who, for the sake of going to college, take up ECs completely unfit for themselves. just follow your heart i say. anyway as far as your last sentence goes…ahem…i believe all teens are crazy(including me!!!) LOLOLOLOLOL

I think your list is okay, stats are great, and your resume is fine. I would only suggest (rightly or wrongly) that you try to plug the “work experience” void. Maybe see if you can do some paid tutoring? If not, try to do some volunteer tutoring when your NHS participation begins. This will help enhance your resume a little for most of those super selective schools that make up your list.

Good luck!

Looks good. But I think duke is a reach like it is for most people. Just because so many people will be applying especially from north Carolina.

I’m lazy and so I’ll just update this old thread instead of making a new one!

SAT- 2300 superscored now (800CR, 720M, 780W)

SAT II- 800 Lit, 770 US History, 760 Math 2

Other Test Stuff- Got that letter from NMSC, will be semifinalist in the fall, barring a huge jump in the NC cutoff.

EC’s-
Junior Marshal
Got into school’s Honors Acting Troupe (14 people), will be hosting regional theatre competition in the fall, and I’ll be second in command for that. (Should be several hundred hours of work!) My official title is “Tech Director”
NHS
Beta Club

Work Experience-
Will be interning at a local law office this summer for about a month and a half. Don’t really know what I’ll do yet, but since we’re a small town they do a little bit of every type of law, so it should be a great learning experience.

I plan to major in econ and then go to law school and focus in either business or patent law.

Schools I’ll be applying to:
Princeton (SCEA)
Yale
Duke
UNC-CH
Georgetown
Northwestern
Vanderbilt

And we’ve run finaid calculators at all of those places and they’d all be affordable.

I don’t really know what my question is, I guess I just wanted to make sure that I’m not aiming too high/low and that my list seems reasonable considering my stats!
Thanks for your time guys!

Apply to UNC-CH early action (the stipulations of Princeton’s SCEA agreement allow you to apply to state schools and schools abroad, right?) and you’re golden. If you get deferred or rejected, however, or leave the UNC application until January, you’ll need to adjust your list because NU, Georgetown and Duke are not really matches for anyone.

You seem like a really solid candidate, though. Good luck!

Yes! I knew there was something I was forgetting. I’m applying EA to UNC, and if I don’t get in I plan on freaking out and applying to Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio State, and pretty much everywhere else that has guaranteed money for NM and high stats.

Yeah, good thinking. That probably won’t be necessary, though.

Where’s the safety?

^UNC would be one for her since she’s instate with academics that would place in her in the top 4% of UNC’s freshman class. Let’s not overestimate selectivity.
