So after much research about admissions, financial aid, housing, food, pre-med advising, research opportunities, science departments and various other factors I have compiled a final list of the colleges I want to attend at last! My list is: UCF, Rollins (safeties); New College, Davidson, Haverford (matches); Rice, Vanderbilt, Amherst (reaches) and Washington University in St. Louis + Brown (dream schools/super-reaches). Is this list reasonable for my stats?

UnWeighted GPA: 3.90
Weighted GPA: 4.43
Rank: Top 10% (specifically, I'm about number 13-14 in my school)
SAT: 2010 (re-taking in Dec and confident I can do well over 2100 but I don't want to get my hopes up so I'll just say 2100)
SAT II: Taking Chem, Math I/II (haven't decided yet) and possibly Physics and think I can score above a 680 on all of them.
ACT: 32
ECs: National Honors Society (Vice-President), National Science Honors Society, 100 hours volunteer work at Arnold Palmer Hospital, National BETA Club.
APs: Human Geo (4), World History (4), US History (4), Chemistry (5), Biology (4), Statistics (3), Lang and Comp (4), Psychology (5), American Government (4).
Others: NMSF, National Hispanic Scholar, Ventures Scholar, low-income bracket, Florida resident, big upward trend in GPA from freshman year up.

I know they all have very different atmospheres but I adapt very well.

Thanks!

What is your SAT breakdown? Also, do you have any idea what you might major in? The list is impressive but at first glance I am wondering if you should have an additional low Match school on your list since Davidson and Haverford are very selective.

CR: 700
M: 640 (I know it’s awful. The test was filled with WAY more function problems, the only one’s I really can’t do, than any practice test or test any of my friends had taken)
W: 670
I took it on a really bad day (my grandfather had just passed that night) and am retaking it again this December and I know I can get over a 2100.

I’ll most likely major in BioChem or Chem.

And I got a C one semester in Spanish 1 in 8th grade (it’s on my transcript because it’s a high-school class) but I’m retaking and will get an A. Will this affect my chances of getting into any of these schools?

Your ACT score of 32 is the equivalent of a 1400-1430, so you may want to consider submitting the ACT score if you do not get similar results on your December ACT test. I don’t know how these schools might treat a C on your transcript, I am sure they all have different measurement criteria.

^I’m not retaking the ACT.

I meant that since you already have an ACT score of a 32, you may want to submit that if the results from your upcoming SAT test are not what you hoped for. As far as a low reach option, there are so many. You mentioned a possible major in Chemistry and an interest in research opportunities. If that is the case, you might want to consider Furman. They have a great Chemistry program and are known for having outstanding research opportunities. It is not as hard to get into as Davidson but they may be a good fit as a Match. My D is a freshman there and could not be happier.

You have a great list. Good luck!

As a low-income URM with your stats I’d say aim even higher (I’m assuming URM from the national hispanic scholar award)

And also that ACT score is good so I wouldn’t sweat it if the SAT doesn’t drastically increase.

^Yeah, I’m half Cuban (though you couldn’t tell by looking at me lol).

You’re a National Hispanic Scholar and you got a C in Spanish I? And your school lets you go back and retake Spanish I when you are in Spanish III or IV?

I think it’s a good list. Good luck.

^^^

I think he lives with his non-Hispanic mom…so probably not that bi-lingual.

Are you a NMSF also?

That’s me! And yes I went through Spanish 2 and 3 (all As in both except one semester in 3 is a B) but the teacher isn’t that great so I switched to ASL junior year. And yeah, they don’t really care about me taking virtual school.

mom2collegekids has it right, I live with my very caucasian mother.

Yes, I’m a NMSF.
