Is my list too risky?

Ughh, its Thanksgiving, and I still haven't got all my college stuff straightened out. On my last SAT I had my scores sent to 11 colleges, but I'm still not sure about this list (in order of preference):

Yale (EA)
Harvard (haven't applied yet)
Princeton (haven't applied yet)
UVA (applied, hoping for some scholarship money)
Georgetown (applied, interview went well and guy told me they like diversity)
Duke (haven't applied yet)
Emory (applied for Scholars, afraid I may get rejected since I never visited, although I did attend an information session in my area)
William and Mary (applied)
U of Delaware (almost done with app)
Brandeis (applied, can't argue with free apps)
BU (may drop this now that I don't have enough time to finish trustee app)

Stats:
97 avg, 5/500
SAT I:2370 (2270 both times, but composite gives me sexy 800 CR, 770 M, 800 W)
SAT II: 800 USH, 800 WH, 670 IC (will retake or take IIc in january if I get deferred next month)
Decent ECs: very active as quiz bowl team captain/president; varsity volleyball 4 yrs, varsity bball 1 yr; officer positions in a few others; lots of leadership in school
Awards: national achievement semi-finalist; national merit commended; nhs president, few quiz bowl awards

I posted a list a few months ago and a few people said many of the schools I viewed as matches were too risky. Do I need to keep Boston University (or possibly George Washington) as another safety? On the reach side, I was thinking about adding UPenn, but I think my math score is a Wharton deal-breaker. Do I need to find some more safer schools, or am I pretty safe with most of my non-ivy league selections? I don't care how much I spend on applications, I just want to make sure I get into a prestigious college good in history/ politics/ or economics.

P.S. I know I should just wait until I find out about my Yale decision, but all my apps have to be in guidance my the beginning of December.

I think you are worrying too much, you will get into at least one of those colleges and most likely half of that list. You shouldn't need to add any schools to your list, you already have a lot. You seem to be under the impression that only prestigious schools are good, get rid of that notion.

Thanks for your opinion. Idk, name recognition isn't mandatory, but it'd be nice. Just like how most of my schools are medium sized, I also want a school that is relatively well known.

Uhh. . .your Math SAT score isn't a deal breaker anywhere and I suspect you will get several acceptances at the school to which you've applied.

However, for peace of mind I would spend some time thinking about less selective schools that you would enjoy attending. If BU, Brandeis or Delaware fit that definition you have no need for an additional school. If not, look into NYU, UW-Madison or Wesleyan (technically a match. . .a large LAC strong in your areas of interest).

I'd be very happy going to Delaware. So can I basically call my search over? I'm not sure if you got this from my post, but I'm also African-American. Will this help at places like UVA after it was called racist in Newsweek?

"I'm also African-American. Will this help at places like UVA after it was called racist in Newsweek?"

It's your only hope. Make sure to include your photo.

I think you have a very well-rounded list if you don't get into Yale, but I think you've got a great shot there anyway.

I would drop BU too. Cause I don't like that school anyway haha.

I'd guess that you'll get into 1/2 of that list, so no I wouldn't call it too risky if those are the schools that you want to go to, there is virtually no way that you will be rejected from all of them.

Relax. You win.

Really, relax you will be accepted to more than half of them

If you are a Virginia resident, and wouldn't mind attending UVA or William and Mary, I wouldn't worry about any more safeties. You will be accepted to a lot of your schools. Go ahead with Wharton if you like the place- that SAT II will not rule you out.

Doesnt a 2370 put you in like the top .01% of african-american SAT takers? Schools like that.

more like the top .00001

Dude, you will get into almost everywhere. Drop BU, its a waste of an application. You are 90% in at Wharton.

""I'm also African-American. Will this help at places like UVA after it was called racist in Newsweek?""

UVA is NOT racist. what happed at University of Virginia is still under investigation. it could have been done by ANYBODY, citizens living in Charlottesville, or even ignorant visitors. University of Virginia is no way a racist university. Come to visit, we have very friendly students. what happened is very unfortunate and i hope prospective applicants don't get discouraged by any mean.

What exactly happened at UVa that requires investigation of racial thingamajigs? Does someone have a link? I'd like to see that for myself since I'm applying there.

Interesting...

OK im a current student let it clear it out

basically....there are people living on the LAWN.these are very very prestigious room, only the very successful 4th year students can live there. they are the original buildings designed by Thomas Jefferson.....

lawn room students usually have dry erase boards on their door. one african american student found the "n-word" written on his dry erase board........ this can be done by anyone......everyone has access to his board, you just have to walk there and write whatever you want. it;s open to outside.........what kind of UVa student would do this stupid thing, it would only get his own school a bad reputation.

besides that, there were several cases where some people got racial slurs yelled at them by some people in passing-by vans............they can be anyone too......anyone can drive his/her car to UVa's streets.

I CAN ASSURE YOU THE LARGE MAJORITY OF UVA STUDENTS ARE VERY VERY FRIENDLY AND NOT RACIST AT ALL. I myself am an asian at UVa and find it to be a very comfortable place.

I cant believe Newsweek called the whole university racist. that's unacceptable.

You should be more worried about having some hard decisions to make since you're going to have lots of choices.

OK, I dropped BU. If I get deferred from Yale, I'm sure my GC won't get too mad if I slip just one more app under his door.

I'm not worried about UVA being racist. A black senior from my school went there this year and loves it. I just remember that the article was like "how will UVA continue to get top black students if rumors of racism persist?". So I figured maybe they would be more pro-active in recruiting blacks this admission season.

Answer to post higher up, no I live in New York.
