Is my orientation date too late?

I am currently signed up to attend Summer Orientation on June 29-July 2. Will I be stuck with the leftover classes to choose from? (I am a Fine Arts student.)
Thanks!

UT will always reserve the required classes for every summer orientation-er. By registering at a later time will not take away your needed classes, but will give you less options on what day and time of day you would like to take the class.

damn it!
i can’t make the first two so i can only go to the last one
does this mean i’ll get the worst class times?

Not necessarily the worst, but the most popular times will most likely be gone. It is only for one semester though. Stay on top of registration, use wait lists if the classes offer them, and check again during the add/drop time. You’ll get something tolerable, and after the first semester you won’t be after everyone else again.

They save spots in every freshman signature course for every orientation period so you aren’t at a disadvantage for that.

What time slots are most popular for classes? I can handle early classes, but late ones…i’m not so sure…

i heard afternoon classes are the popular ones. we’re more awake to learn and the professors are in a more teaching mood. but personally, waking up at 6 in the morning everyday for school has influenced me to like morning classes more

MWF 10 and 11 am and 1 pm classes fill up quickly. T Th 11 to 12:30 is popular. :)

We live in NY and my daughter is in school through the end of June and then immediately starts work (her first paying job) so we were planning on her only attending the abbreviated orientation that is scheduled for right before school starts.

She is in the Communications college -will she still be able to get the classes that she needs???

Is this a bad idea-any thoughts.

There are many many sections of classes freshmen need; she will be able to take classes that will be useful to her for graduation.

Because the mid day classes tend to fill up first, she might find herself taking some classes at less preferred hours of the day fall semester of freshman year (early morning; Friday afternoon). If this happens, where possible she should waitlist into classes or sections she prefers or for classes with no waitlist, she should watch on the day people have to pay for fall semester and drop add herself into classes or sections she prefers.

If not, it is just one semester. She’ll be at no disadvantage when she registers for spring. She’d be facing similar issues if she went to a mid July session.

She is in Communications, so she isn’t a possible TIP student (TIP saves spaces in classes for TIP kids). If there is a FIG that appeals to her, she may be able to join that - FIGs also have spaces in classes.

(If she is not very familiar with UT, though, I would recommend she try to go to one of the summer orientation sessions if she can get away from work one week. The kids meet friends there and really get a feel for the campus in a relaxed way. But if she can’t get away from work, it will be okay - she won’t be the only one in this boat.)

HELP!

So we’re supposed to be registering for orientation now?!! I checked my UTEID account before to look at orientation times but I just figured there was plenty of time b/c some people were still getting acceptances and such…is it too late to register for orientation or what??? I didn’t want to register for orientation at that time because I didn’t know which orientation to take! Could someone please fill me in on what chances I have now? I’m instate, and I’m pre-journalism/communications.

you’ll most likely have a spot in an orientation session, but the more popular ones (the first ones) will probably be filled by now. not only are there still people waiting on acceptances, there are also some who choose to drop UT and go elsewhere.

I’m now registered for the 07/07 - 07/10 of Summer 2009. I’m assuming this is one of the really late ones since the OP’s registration is at least in June?

07/07 - 07/10 is the second to last session. the first session is 06/09 - 06/12

I know that the dorms open early for those attending the final orientation session. Does anyone know if dorms open the day the session starts or if students can unpack the day before. We are planning on purchasing most of our daughter’s dorm supplies in the Austin area (rather than shipping them from out of state) and would rather not disturb her during orientation .

My D chose the session that was around July 7 to 10 last year because she knew she was going to take six AP tests in May and she really wanted the results in hand before she registered for fall. (AP test scores come out around July 4.) for students with AP scores pending, that is an advantage of the last two summer orientation sessions.

Residence Halls open for early checkin on Tuesday, August 18 at 4:00 PM. There is a $50 per night charge, each night before Friday, August 21, to check in early. Summer school checks out at 9:00 AM on Tuesday which is why students may not move into their rooms before 4:00 PM.

if a student is staying in the dorm for late orientation are they charged the $60.00 per night fee?

Interesting info!

Son is deciding between UT & another school (waiting on scholarship info & a sit-down on our general finances, in the family).

Would you register for orientation if you weren’t 100 % going to attend UT??

I am planning on going to the first session of Camp Texas (august 16-18) and i’m also planning on rushing (which starts the 19th) so I would like to move in on the 15th? Is that possible if I pay the $50 per night?
