I am a semi-finalist for national merit and I got a 216 on my PSAT but only a 2080 on my highest SAT. I don't have time to retake the SAT again. I'm worried about being able to make finalist standing for national merit since my SAT score is 80 lower than my PSAT score and the organization says that the SAT scores need to match up to PSAT scores.

Your 2080 SAT score is fine.

NMC does NOT say that the scores need to “match up”

Your SAT score just needs to “back up” the fact that your PSAT score wasn’t a gross fluke.

Your 2080 is very likely acceptable. Why can’t you retake in Dec?

I’m assuming you took the October 10th test and just got your score this morning I’m also a semifinalist and my guidance counselor actually called in and asked this same question today. She was told that the “cutoff” score that will confirm your PSAT results is 1960. So you cleared that. But that doesn’t give you automatic finalist standing either. Now its just up to committees to look at the rest of your application and make a decision. Anyways, congrats on your score and good luck!

I’m planning on taking the Subject Tests in December, so I don’t have anymore time to retake the SAT.

Yep, I did haha, although it didn’t matter as much, I did better on the test before the October one…sigh, haha.

Mm, I hope it’s O.K., I’d rather not be the 1/16th person to not be a finalist, especially when a lot of money is at stake. :/

So was your 2080 enough for NMF status?

My daughter is in a similar situation this year - 219 on PSAT and 2150 (710/710/730) on SAT.
